It's not fair. Why must I be wide awake with my mind racing when the world sleeps?

Don't take afternoon naps.
Stay away from doctors.
Why?
They are usually really bad for your health.
Stay away from most meds, vitamins, etc.
Take a two mile walk or jog, or, a 4 to 5 mile bicycle ride every day.
You'll sleep.

Stress is really great on a lot of people these days.
Stress keeps people up at night.
Sumpthin' to think about.
You gotta have fun.

Nobody was ever on their death bed saying...Oh me, I wish I had worked more and spent less time with my family and spent less time doing things I really wanted to do.

How true.

I agree. This is one of the reasons I trade.

A lot of the replies here are trying to give you a solution that forces you to sleep. The real problem is your compulsive mind, and you can't focus on anything except the thoughts that come one after the other. The solution to this problem, and thus your sleep problem, is meditation and mindfulness. Here is a page that has everything you ever wanted to know about these two topics...what your mind is doing, and how to meditate and be mindful. If you scroll to the very bottom left you will find four posts that perfectly describe what you are going through, and give you basic instructions (you don't need the guide unless you want it - those four posts tell you everything). It will change your life.

This was great, thank you.

You might have a severe magnesium deficiency. I suggest buying magnesium supplements that are well absorbed by the body (not all supplements are created equal). Search on Amazon.

The American diet is very poor when it comes to getting enough of this vital mineral. And excessive caffeine has been show to help the body excrete magnesium from the body at accelerated rates (a bad thing). Magnesium regulates the cardiovascular system and relieves anxiety and "racing thoughts".

I would give this a try and see if you feel more calm and able to get some good ZZZ's.

If you don't want to take supplements, try having one banana before breakfast and another one about 1 hr before bed. Banana's are nature's "sleeping pill" and contain a decent amount of magnesium.

I know there is a name for it. B waves or something, but it's been going on since i was a kid. I actually remember asking my mom for something to help me sleep when I was really young. 8-10 years old or so. She said no. Thanks mom.

The upside is that my mind races and if I'm focused, I can come up with some pretty good ideas. Or, on the downside, focus way too much on a trivial problem which will keep me tossing and turning all night.

I know what they mean by restless legs, but that's because I had too much caffeine and not enough exercise that day. And not enough water. I don't believe in it for normal functioning adults. Maybe I'm wrong.

(BTW, the true meaning of RLS hit home when the young daughter of a friend of mine was in the hospital for an extended time. That I can understand. She said her legs just wanted to get up and run, but she couldn't move. Now that sucks. :( )

I know Tony Robbins once said his mind didn't even get started until midnight, and he would come up with ideas for his books and cd's and crap over the next few hours. Well, great. But what if you have to get up at 7:00 cst every morning and trade.

Signed,

46, and finally asking for ideas.

P.S.

I have a half solved rubiks cube for the first person who posts the Seinfeld episode we're all thinking of.

try to work on your stoicism. Many people mistake stoicism for a form of toughness, on the contrary, being stoic requires looking at yourself, at others and at the surrounding world with nothing but kindness and love.

As roman emperor Marcus Aurelius suggested: "say to yourself in the early morning: I shall meet today ungrateful, violent, treacherous, envious, uncharitable men. All of these things have come upon them through ignorance of real good and ill... I can neither be harmed by any of them, for no man will involve me in wrong, nor can I be angry with my kinsman or hate him; for we have come into the world to work together..."

Exercise, tea and sleep studies are all wishful thinking.

If you want to sleep real good then you need to relax, to relax you need to go to a state of mind that allows you to relax, to get to that state of mind you need to see a herbal doctor, to see a herbal doctor you need to visit Denver or Seattle, once you visit Denver or Seattle, then you will see that herbal doctor and you will finally be able to RELAX With a FAT Bowl of The Finest Weed Money Can Buy.

Don't be the guy who can't relax.
