We really are going to have to have a talk about your homosocial fixation on strong men Lyle. You don't need them to feel safe.
I was at the movies last light watching the new Mission Impossible and at a couple of points got really lost with who was secretly doing what disguised as who and realised something.
Although in the past decade or so writing in the US has progressed to moderate levels of complexity (Sops/Breaking Bad etc. comedy is still pretty basic) little old men like Lyle grew in a simple time of cowboys and Indians, black and white.
Don't use it you lose it, or never had it in many cases. The Lyles are not only a bit fetal alcohol syndrome 50s/60s babies but even the normal ones simply can't conceive of good guys also being bad guys and such.
It is not the simple America they grew up in. Their brain just can't take all of this.
