Iterative Refinement

Quote from Padawan:

ehorn, It's hard to know where to begin asking you how you are seeing that far ahead with your channels. It's what Mak showed in some futures journal posts, and certainly worth trying. I've worked on it, but a bit blindly. Any pointers or is it a matter of just getting a enough experience to feel the "pseudo-bounding" characteristics of channels?

For those interested, here's where Mak does his thing (start around page 180).

Hi Padawan,

Yes, this is the anticipation thing (or maybe forward testing). I tried to articulate it back around christmas time (not very well though :) )

The market speaks and we listen. We know the patterns, we do the drills, we do the MADA and we debrief. When we do this our minds are programmed to sense the cadence of the markets recent past, and its now. This forward testing is just a projection of that cadence out into the future... and sometimes it is frighteningly accurate. As I mentioned elsewhere today, I have been studying and working VERY hard for 6 months. I can only imagine 50 years of programming and forward testing!

I think Jack said it once, it feels like you are falling asleep and still know exactly what is going on. Sure sounds like a nice place to be :)

Sounds corny, I know, but I have no concrete way to articulate it at this time. Meanwhile, I practice forward testing as part of my MADA.

Skill improvement drill # 1.6

I hope you are starting to realize just how valuable this drill is. This is just where we sat with Spyder when he drilled us for hours and left us with a major headache on one Saturday this winter. LOL!

I am not sure when it clicked , but when it did it was great.
The drill does not need to put a value on a price bar, nor does it need to include the time of day.
What you do have is signals from the market for continuation or change.

Thats it. That simple. Thats the drill.

Nothing at ALL to do with entry or exit, Profit and loss . . . Nothing.

Just simply, were you able to pick up on the signals the market was giving.

That is confusing to some because you want to think in terms of entry-exit.

There was an example on that day when Spyder was reading the signals and remained with the bar even though he started to give up quite a few ticks on the bar, I thought to myself, what is he doing. Then a few of us spoke up and said you are letting all that profit go.

His response . . . Oh well, that is how it goes and I did not get a signal of change. Sure enough, he was right as the bars continued.
It was the beginning for myself to see that this was about understanding the market signals and setting aside the profit- loss mindset. Just tuning into each and every price bar with volume and to listen with the mind, they have something to tell.
This is the drill.

I can say all of you listened to those signals and did an amazing job on that this week.
I am not sure if you realize that you had actually accomplished that this week, but everyone did.
Some may have had the trader mindset, and still did the drill very good.

Just remember, no exit or entry, no profit or loss . . .

Did you recognize the signals for continuation or change. That simple.

Everyone did just that this week and really did awesome.

This evening is the last bar for this week. That will allow anyone who would like to discuss this past 6 bars on Saturday the time to do so.

On Sunday the next set of six bars will begin to continue that section of price and volume.

Got short SNCR yesterday for a point. It was a textbook BO of the light blue up channel.

Nice Trade.

Quote from ehorn:

Nice looking chart! That carryover channel from yesterday was very useful today indeed!

Nice ten point trade earlier today. One question, though Does your broker make you give the money back becuase you "Didn't call the trade correctly?"

:D :D :D

Thanks Spyder! Kids... Jheesh! nothing is ever good enough for them :)

I was early (as usual), but dammit, the volume was telling me change so I stuck around.

But I wasn't sweating too much (7 ticks) with a big old wall formed up, high volume bar with relative volatility. Then the YM made me sit back in my chair a little more :)

ES Daily Chart April / 4 / 2008

ES daily bar made a higher high and a higher low on increased volume.

The ES daily bar also formed an IBGS today with a close below its open.
