I think it is a smaller battery. The price of the Model 3 was too high, so to lower that price they probably put a smaller battery. Which means that upgrading would mean buy a bigger battery + install it. $$$$$

If it would only be a software update Tesla would lose a lot of money as the sales price went down but the cost would be the same. So less margin, if there is already any margin.

Maybe, but that means sales price goes down but production cost stays the same.
Profit equals sales price minus production cost.
If it is only a software manipulation Canada might cancel the tax incentive because of fraude.

That's only for power output. I think they sell ludicrous as an option that gets unlocked. Installing unused battery capacity would be wasteful.

Rumour going around is April sales just plummeted... With current global recession, I do not see Tesla selling more then Q1 numbers in 2019, I guarantee he will be raising funds again in Q4 2019... Lawsuits from autonomous death starting and will pile up, lawsuit from Buffalo is next year, the 750 subsidy it gave Tesla, if the job quota isn't filled, they want money back... Tesla Buffalo Factory job numbers are way below what was inked in contract to get 750 Mil subsidy
