Yes, I remember my bout with "cant pull the trigger"...back in early 88 I believe. I was a position or swing trader back then with some cross over, divided by, added to a divergent something bullshit system and in just a few short weeks I was loaded up with 50 s&p contracts, 10-15 swiss francs and 10-15 crude contracts... The market went up for like 20 straight days that January, the bottom dropped out of the dollar and there was a snow storm in europe...biggest in 100 years! Oh yea, "they" were out to see how much money I had..."they" were out to get me and turn my pockets wrong side out...and "they" did a pretty good job of it. When I finally relented to the gut wrenching, the daily ritual of crackers and pepto on the opening, I contributed $170k to the cause...$170k cash money out the window.
Well, I couldnt pull the trigger to save my life for months after that. That agony was as bad, if not worse, than losing the cash. Day after day I would watch the market with my finger on the auto-dial on the phone...fear just boiling. Sometimes I would muster all the nerve I had and push it! But I would quickly hang up...and run the calming confidence building thoughts of "boy, Im glad I didnt do that" or "see, you could have made that" justifications for hanging up. I cant even begin to tell you the explosion of feelings that overwhelmed me when I pushed that telep button. When I did talk to my broker, (he would call me ha) I would tell him I was busy doing my paper route or somethin and never admitted I was scared shitless. You prob dont talk to your broker much, but since you are having problems with button pushing, you know all about it.
Well u dont need a coach or a guru...u just need to pull the trigger a few times. Back then, I had to do it with a real account and real money (eti's would refer to this as...like a man)...now you dont have to; try this...open up a demo account and put on some trades. I bet you will still sit there for a few days, weeks or months before you can even make yourself do it. ha its crazy and you know its crazy...but the fear is so powerful you may as well be in a nursing home. Its not chronic, but U have to make yourself do it and do it without hesitation...and it wont be easy even with a demo acct...if it is, then great. But it gets easy and u can take as long as it takes to get u used to pushin that button again...get yourself to where you can execute again and not hesitate! We all know that "hesitation" is a killer and the demo...the practice of executions...will ultimately put u back in the light. Let me know and Ill set you up with someone who will let you renew until you are back on track if you need it. Oh btw, "they" dont exist...only "you".
