CHICAGO'S UNREPORTED RACE WAR
Tribune argues it's irrelevant in news

According to a statement in the Chicago Tribune, reporting on the race of individuals involved in news events, such as mobs
attacking, robbing and vandalizing, is irrelevant.

City officials and the media might be the only two places left where people still deny Chicago is under assault from more than 50 episodes of black mobs attacking, beating, robbing and vandalizing over the last three years in and around downtown. Many of them are on display at YouTube.

Some call it the “Chicago Intifada.”

Over just the last two weeks, black mobs are under investigation in at least five new violent incidents in downtown Chicago.

And according to the award-winning police blog Second City Cop, there may be 25 more incidents of mob violence and lawlessness in that weekend alone that were never reported.

The Chicago New Report provides details of similar assaults for the following weekend: “Saturday, Chicago police officers were kept busy trying to control huge crowds of unruly, young African Americans in the city’s increasingly violent downtown area. Separate groups, of nearly two hundred people, were responsible for several disturbances and at least one robbery in the area.”

Over the last three years, Chicago has been Ground Zero for an epidemic of racial violence and denial – with dozens of attacks against women, “gays,” seniors, Asians and others from black mobs. Few, if any, were reported as racial violence.

City officials sometimes even deny the violence exists – let alone has a racial component.

Last year, the city closed North Avenue Beach for Memorial Day after a crowd of 1,000 black people attacked beachgoers, knocked some off bikes and created other mayhem.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the beach was closed because it was too hot. No one told him about wide-spread racial violence at the beach, he said

Also during the summer on at least five occasions, mobs of black people swept through the “gay” district of Boys Town, beating, assaulting, destroying, even knifing. Some of it is on YouTube.
 
Most if not all recessions see the rise of street level violence. During the recent booms we were relieved to see such crime declining.

Ricter, I know you are not from Chicago or live here, but Chicago is one of the most segregated cities in the country and our crime situation here is not simply because we are in a "recession" as you put it.

I actually got ripped off in Chicago once. Pickpocket! I was at some truckstop downtown. Rough area for sure.

Anyway, I'm sure this chart's bars for this year and last would show a change of trend, but here it is:

Edit: by the way, the truckstop was west-northwest of the city center, maybe 10-20 blocks. What part of town is that? Is it considered rough?

Ricter, a few things of note here. Chicago over the last 10 years has become even more gentrified. What this means is the poor blacks and latinos are getting pushed out of what are becoming yuppy neighborhoods and moved to very concentrated areas. So the overall crime in the city might be going down but that's only because it's getting pushed out by the big ten grads who want to have the hoods all to themselves. I assure you crime is out of control here in the ethnic neighborhoods. In the yuppy neighborhoods crime is mostly a non event.

I can accept that. Violent crime is (was) down overall, but up in certain areas. Without going to look for any data on it, I'd still wager that the recession has exacerbated the violent crime rate in those areas.

As I've said before (and as you've read before, : )), whether you're looking at the residents of the world's favelas, shanty towns, slums, "white trash" trailer parks, ghettos, skid rows, or villas miserias, you're going to see the same problems. "Inexplicably" stupid behavior, violence, crime, hatred, hopelessness, disease, and abbreviated lives.

Ricter, in my humble opinion, I think the phenomenon of increasing crime during periods of economic slowdown are caused in large part do the the class warfare perpetuated by the left. You get the left beating the drum every day about the haves and have nots. That gets inside these kid's heads. It angers them. And then they act. Nobody wins the class warfare game Ricter, nobody.

Yes, but that is precisely when and where you don't want to incite class warfare. The fuel is already there, why provide the match? Well, I'm sure this fall we're going to see plenty of democrats with matches ready to light the fire. Yeah, it's going to be a long hot summer in Chicago.

I think history supplies pretty good evidence that class warfare mostly arises where there are 1) strong class divisions, and 2) weak legitimacy for those divisions--"incitement" follows the emergence of the problem.

I wouldn't expect to find much class warfare in the more egalitarian societies. : P
