for crying out loud, it's no longer for the fed to monitor money supply and watch out for inflation, now they have to get my kid a job

While I agree on the overall statement that you made. Socialism and communism are 2 different things. For me communism exists in Cuba right now and no other place has it...yes you are correct, there is absolutely no opportunity in Cuba.
Now socialism on the other hand, I have to disagree with you that there is no opportunity. Have you ever lived in France or any part of Europe that you consider socialist?
When I lived in France, there are plenty of entrepreneurs. I was personally friends with a guy who owned 7 apartments inside the Downtown area of Paris. He started out as a police officer. Another that I know owned 2 bake shops and a fruit market. I found that there was ample opportunity to own your own business if one was motivated to work hard. If you ever have the time to visit France, take a look at how the life is, the streets are completely made up of small businesses.
Yes the taxes are higher, but there is also subsidies that other "social" programs that can be taken advantage of to help your small business grow. Yes I agree with that there is a little too much help being given out to people who don't work.
How I see it:
- Cuba is socialist, not communist - there are people selling items for money in Cuba and get to keep the money.
- Soviet Union was communist in that money had no value and you couldn't buy/sell items. Everything was license based and licenses were offered for 'special favors' - car license etc. (Does that make Singapore communist?!).
- France would be capitalism with socialist tendencies - you can still become a millionaire in France in 2013 and it does happen. In socialism or communism it wouldn't happen (or the money would have no real power, like in Soviet Union).
US will become like Europe, no question about it. All societies follow a predetermined path but are in very different development stages.

Many people on here hate the system that is common in most countries in western europe, however if any of these traders here actually lived in any country in Western Europe, they would have a lot more of their profits in their account at the end of the year. Plus they would pay about 100 bucks a month for great health care insurance, and their kids would be able to attend some of the best universities in the world for about the cost of 1 days work scalping the NQ.

When the state provides stuff it shuts down the best computers on earth; the ones between the recipients ears. With no incentive and no input of intelligence to a person's own situation it cannot go anywhere but to a lower state of organization.
Singaporean are great people, but the old mumbler was a communist, and now his family rules the hardworking great singaporean people.
