No, that is not true on many levels.

A.) Not every company has "an employee handbook". There are companies out there besides huge corporate "McDonalds" with no need for such things.

B.) You have no duty at all to do anything, except what the company wishes you to do. This is usually to help the company provide greater return for it's stakeholders.

C.) Upholding an amicable relationship with a supervisor is the least of companies' worker worries, and the company most likely doesn't care about that. They want you to be efficient in your job, not efficient in your water-cooler blather with the immediate boss. Most supervisors are assholes, which is why they are supervisors. Perhaps you have not worked in enough jobs to know that the middle managers are the weakest links in any company chain, and the ones most likely to get the axe when the sheet hits the fan? Supervisors are dead weight, and a waste of materiel.

P.S. D.) If I read a rider in my employment contract that one of my duties was to appease my supervisor, and to maintain a "good" relationship with him/her? I'd bail the hell out of that room, and that building, and that idea of working for a firm like that. Seriously? My duty is to kiss my boss's ass? Umm, no? Hellooooo??!

Judging from your post, YOU obviously haven't worked in enough jobs to know about the code of conduct or Employee Handbook either. LOL

And you have read my post, I did NOT say that you have to kiss your boss' a$$ or having an amicable relationship, I said you need to maintain an amicable WORKING relationship with your supervisor. Like I said before, unless your job description states specifically that your job is to make your boss happy to cater to every single of his/her whim and needs, your job is NOT to make your boss happy, you just need to be able to WORK with your supervisor. And part of being efficient at your job INCLUDES being able to WORK with your supervisor no matter how much of a b1tch or a$$hold she/he maybe. You don't have to agree with your boss, you don't have to like him/her, you don't have to go to bed (although many actually try to) with your boss, you just need to be able to WORK with him/her. After your working time is finished, you can be a total stranger with your boss if you don't want to and you don't even need to say hi to your boss if you bump into him/her on the street.

This post exactly exemplifies the problem with the corporate workplace today in that nobody knows how to handle the working relationship properly to know how to be a professional anymore. They treat their workplace as their second home, their boss/co-worker as their friends. And they go to 2 different extremes. They either go to one extreme to go out of their way to kiss their boss' a$$ to try to be his/her friend to be this, to be that and then go to the other extreme to hate their boss and be all passive aggressive and think their boss is an a$$hole and/or b1tch when they see their boss still didn't give them what they want, when all along, all they have to do is just to concentrate on doing their JOB as a PROFESSIONAL.

You're in a trading forum, not a work ethics forum. OP asked about feasibility of making a living out of trading. I submitted avoid leverage and beware of spurious correlations, do you have anything to add besides corporate bs?

And TRUST ME when I say this, if you don't have work ethics when you work in a corporate job, you will NOT SUCCEED as a trader. In order to make it in trading, you will have to work 100X harder than when you work in a regular job.
