US officials say two missiles were fired. Iraqi military bases detected and picked up Iran's air defence systems turning on radar and launching the missiles.

In the video you can see what appears to be the missile (left to right in the video) hitting the plane. After the missile hits the plane continues and appears to be on fire (right to left in the video).

Agree, it looks like an accident.
We did it ourselves, shot down an Iranian airliner over the Gulf. That aircraft was ID'd as a commercial airliner but it made a series of strange maneuvers ending with a descent straight at a missile cruiser.
And the Russians smoke commercial airliners pretty routinely.

Okay, they shot it down by "mistake". Next question not being asked is what did they mistake it for? You don't mistakenly launch a missile, so what did they think the target was? Obviously the missile was fired with intent to shoot down a plane. The mistake was the plane wasn't the type aircraft they thought it was. Everybody seems just fine with that, but that is in fact an act of war, be it defensive or offensive.
There is little doubt they believed this to be a aircraft flown by the United States and were willing to take the action of shooting it down. I'm not saying one way or the other as to the justification of their action, the plane was in their airspace, but it's clear to me that push comes to shove they have no problem taking a shot at whatever they see as a threat. That my friends does not look like a country on the run from us.

Do you honestly believe that any major military in the world is incapable of determining if a jet is commercial or military? It is extremely easy for a military to figure it out. I don't expect some idiot to know that though.
There are only two possibilities. Iran shot down the plane on purpose or their military is the dumbest this universe has ever seen.
If you really believe that Iran's military is really that fucking stupid to shot down a civilian plane on accident and that is true, it wouldn't take more than a few days for the US to destroy their military.
