The touch screen is a big advantage, if it is configured correctly & voice recognition has been a drawback until now with the introduction of more powerful tablets.

If you are away from your desk and trading multiple charts; the charting platform resides on the cloud server and the trading platform resides on the tablet.

If you are away from your desk and trading a single or just a couple charts; the charting platform could resides on the cloud server or your tablet (with a robust tablet) and the trading platform resides on the tablet.

If you are at your desk and trading any amount of charts; the charting platform resides on the cloud server and the trading platform resides on the tablet.

Soon we will be able to access our charting and trading platforms both on cloud servers with equal security and speed of execution.

I'm in the process of using the tablet as a complete desktop/phone replacement. Along with accessing my cloud applications this is a terrific solution. The next step though is size. The best case scenario is a little smaller tablet (somewhere around 7" to 8"), with battery life around 5 - 8 hours and weighs about 1 - 1.5 pounds. The industry should achieve this in 24 months or so.

These ipad or other tablets have only wifi on them, right? Or maybe some have 4G cell phone built in. How fast is the data link? I have seen a google map update on an iphone4. It was not very fast. And that's for a 4-inch screen space. I can't imagine how fast/slow it would be for an 11-inch or bigger screen space.

If wifi only, one wouldn't be able to trade in the subway or walk around on the side walk.

So this seems to be a wireless input device to let you stay connected somehow while you walk within the wifi coverage of your facility. Maybe someone can heat up his lunch and still keeps an eye on the trading screen but really not as an "that's all you need" trading device?

Townsend Realtick 10 offers some mobile apps for cell phones (or perhaps tablets too). I declined using those features.

Almost all have WiFi, correct.
Some have built in 3G/4G.
If they have an available USB port you can attach a 3G/4G dongle.

You can also carry around a 3G/4G HotSpot in your pocket. I have one that is a little larger than a credit card that connects through Bluetooth or WiFi. My family can ride in the car and everyone is connected if they choose. I like the security of those because of the custom features.

I hate the tiny screens but don't want to carry a beast either. The alternative will be better in the coming months.

I do the same . I am using a Droidx phone to provide a wifi hotspot... $20. a month, no contract ( hotspot plan ) and it can connect up to 5 devices( must also have a data plan for phone ). It is great and family connects on the go and in the car also.

Ever heard of voice recognition software?
Ever heard of custom 64bit charting software?
Ever heard of multi-tasking?

These are just my needs.

Lots of businesses are moving toward business tablets.

Smith & Wollensky's are in the process of turning their entire front & back house operations over to business tablets. Corporate expects to be 80% business tablets by 2012. Custom software applications on those tablets are expected to add 11% to their bottom-line this year and increases are expected for the next 3 years.

Do you put food in that mouth?
