Immortality?!

Thou shalt not commit adultery" is a command which makes no distinction between the following persons. They are all required to obey it:
Children at birth.
Children in the cradle.
School children.
Youths and maidens.
Fresh adults.
Older ones.
Men and women of 40.
Of 50.
Of 60.
Of 70.
Of 80.
Of 90.
Of 100.
The command does not distribute its burden equally, and cannot.
It is not hard upon the three sets of children.
It is hard -- harder -- still harder upon the next three sets -- cruelly hard.
It is blessedly softened to the next three sets.
It has now done all the damage it can, and might as well be put out of commission. Yet with comical imbecility it is continued, and the four remaining estates are put under its crushing ban. Poor old wrecks, they couldn't disobey if they tried. And think -- because they holily refrain from adulterating each other, they get praise for it! Which is nonsense; for even the Bible knows enough to know that if the oldest veteran there could get his lost heyday back again for an hour he would cast that commandment to the winds and ruin the first woman he came across, even though she were an entire stranger.

i like movies like the 'highlander' series, connor mc cloud .. scottish highlands like my forebears, colquohoun...... yes a fear of death presses home a desire to make every second count ... no matter how much $$ you make it won't extend your life, beyond what health care can do for you.

makes it important to value every second w/family/friends... michael landon's final interviews are things that i think about .. the guy was a good person, taken early, he spoke in his video, last address to fans, about need to really Really make every day important, to count..

where you live is important too. I've lived in #hitty as well as superb neighborhoods, like now, and that makes a huge difference. reading tony robbins' stuff (awaken the giant within etc) every few months helps too. it works if you let it.

great h. stern quote too, above ...and drive by a boneyard, and it makes you realize, ah This counts, ain't no dress rehearsal folks, make every hour worthwhile.

no matter what happens after death, and that's a debate, it won't be the same as the life we're all enjoying now. so, we need to make it count. every dang second. tick tick tick.

fwiw, my having a new small child, daughter, in my life, helps a lot, because you can rediscover a more light-hearted (less uptight like my norm lol) way of life, and rediscover play, laughter, those things that are easy to lose track of along the path..

What few of us seem to understand is that everything we say or do has some effect on everyone we come in contact with – thus, our words and actions “live forever’. They live forever because they effect for good or for bad, and then become part of that person to be passed on yet again – in an endless cycle.

It has nothing to do with the religious concept of immortality, it’s just the truth.

If we weren't here, where would we be? Since nonexistence is impossible. You cannot have nonexistence. There is a simple theory for this.

Hypothesis: "Non-existence exists."

a) In order to have nonexistence, it must be in contrast to the state of existence.
b) We currently exist, therefore existence does exist.
v) If non-existence existed, then it would not be non-existent to begin with.
d) How can something be non-existent if the state of not existing is actually existing in some state?
e) Therefore non-existence cannot be possible.

It is logically impossible to have any state of non-existence.

that's very interesting aphexcoil but you're playing with semantics. your argument amounts to tautology, ie circular reasoning. you've simply redefined "non-existence" as a particular "state of existence", then try to use your new definition as proof.

also, look to your first premise --a)In order to have nonexistence, it must be in contrast to the state of existence

you (wrongly) conclude that non-existence is impossible BUT your first premise assumes existence and non-existence to be contrasting, ie one cannot exist without the other. well then if there exists no non-existence, then this also negates the possibility of existence, the very thing you're attempting to prove is ubiquitous.

it's all a mess aphie but it was a nice effort.

what will computing be like in the year 3010? what of life itself? the year 4010? or 5010??

can you imagine what technological wonders in the year 5010! i'd love to see it.
computing in the year 5010, oh i would give most anything to be there.

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find........

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do, or say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
Ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs got nothing to do
Some machine, doing that for you

In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube

In the year 7510
If God's a comin' he ought to make it by then
Maybe he'll look around himself and say
``Guess it's time for the Judgement day''

In the year 8510
God's gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say ``I'm pleased where man has been''
Or tear it down and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man's gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing...

Now it's been 10,000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through
But through the eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday...

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find.......
--In The Year 2525

oh man would i love to live forever.....

oh boy, another one trying to convince themselves that atheism makes sense and that they are therefore smarter than everyone else. Be religious, or be an agnostic, or be a bothersome fool. Its your choice. Honestly your type is just as bad as the fundamentalists.
