You have to be sharper than that. Being on the way to admiral is a vague term, could happen today may not happen tomorrow. It is amazing that secretary of navy met him just around the time his father died. But the most important part consists of making no promises about being a full admiral. That is putting it politely. It is possible McCain could have retired as a rear admiral at the end of his convoluted career but what essentially guaranteed was the he was never gonna measure up to his father and grandfather.

Just to put an exclamation point onto John McCain's gross under performance in life (given expectations) one of his former academy classmates at Naval Academy(born in the same year of 1936) went on to become a 4 star full admiral. His name was Charlers R Larson.

It is amazing that after returning from vietnam he was given command of a TRAINING SQUADRON in florida and then became a liaison to US Senate. If tactical and strategic brilliance was required, US Navy wanted to keep John McCain the HELL AWAY FROM ACTION.
