"If there were no God, there would be no atheists

Quote from Gabfly1:

Posited by whom and on what authority? By definition. This is what the word God means in metaphysics -- a First Cause.

A book that described the world as flat?I didn't know we were discussing any books here. Logical fallacy of ignoratio elenchi Gabfly1!

Existence is posited as the irreducible principle, not god.

I just love your sophistry Stu. You got this straight out of the cosmological argument, right?

What you wrote sounds like the joke I posted before about atheists.

An atheist buys an ancient lamp at an auction, takes it home, and begins to polish it. Suddenly, a genie appears, and says, “I’ll grant you three wishes, Master.” The atheist says, “I wish I could believe in you.” The genie snaps his fingers, and suddenly the atheist believes in him. The atheist says, “Wow. I wish all atheists would believe this.” The genie snaps his fingers again, and suddenly atheists all over the world begin to believe in genies. “What about your third wish?” asks the genie. “Well,” says the atheist, “I wish for a billion dollars.” The genie snaps his fingers for a third time, but nothing happens. “What’s wrong?” asks the atheist. The genie shrugs and says, “Just because you believe in me, doesn’t necessarily mean that I really exist.”

God doesn't exist in time and space so the idea of "Before" is not applicable relative to our frame of reference.

There's a green centaur that follows you everywhere. Of course it's invisible and immaterial, ergo you can't detect it. You should just take my word for it ... you know, like I should just take your word for your god/creator. :D

A talking dog lives in my closet. He's invisible and undetectable, but I know he is there. I don't need to provide any evidence of his existence. In fact, I have decided that since you can't prove that the invisible, undetectable talking dog living in my closet is not real, I conclude that the talking dog does indeed exist. I will also use this fact in every discussion related to whether or not the talking dog in my closet exists.

If these invisible dogs and unicorns are giving comfort during our all too short, tragic time on Earth, what's the harm?

the believers of superstition want everyone else to acknowledge that their invisible friend not only exists but created the world. then they want schools to teach that their invisible friend is behind everything that happens in the world and if we just say the correct majic words this invisible friend will do miracles like cure cancer. you see no harm in that?
