exGOPer has a point regarding schools teachers and guns. My daughter is a school teacher. The reality is that most school teachers are female. Many are slight in figure and smaller than the average male in their high schools. Teachers are focused on teaching and interacting with students so they learn, not focused like a security officer in a school looking out for threats and problems all day. It would be very easy for a male student in a high school to overpower a teacher, take the teacher's gun, and shoot a large number of people in an enclosed classroom. Part of the reality is that most teachers are not trained for this close quarters situation; so just having a carry permit does not help much.
My daughter is opposed to have teachers armed in schools -- and this is coming from a lady who is trained in firearms, physically fit, shoots a pistol regularly, and has a carry permit. A better alternative (which they do now) is to have armed security officers (school resource officers from the police and sherriff's department) at each school.
