I think IB is having the same problem as many other brokers that have experienced a rapid expansion of their customer base. IB has let their hardware upgrades and customer service fall behind their rapid growth rate. This hurts us all, IB included.

I thik you hit it on the nose! My user ID is in the two thousand. My dad resently opened an account with them, ID 40,000 something. In the meantime, I suspect that they have not geared up for this kind of growth.
They need an OC12 IMHO. I hope they are not running this operation on Windows servers, that would explain it all...
