IB Down

Yea right lets fire someone , great solution – not !!
I get the impression that a lot of people here have not been trading for that long and do not understand that these things happen. As I have said in a previous post every broker I ever used for Day Trading has had a day like this . Fyi – I have been Day Trading on line since 1999. Read the agreement you signed with IB when you opened your account , all brokers have you sign the same thing . They are not responsible for losses caused by internet connectivity issues - period . So even if they had a totally incompetent moron who did something to cause this they are not liable. Shit happens , it sucks especially if you lose money because of it, however it comes with the territory of on line trading.
They all go down on us and suck from time to time !!!!

I hate that line of reasoning. Nobody should accept that "shit happens so I'll take my losses and move on because I signed an agreement". This is 2008 (almost) and online trading has been around for a long time. So with each passing year, things should get more and more reliable and f*ck-ups like today should not take place. The customers should DEMAND that stuff like this never happens.

There is real money on the line here and this is no joke. That is what redundancy and backups are for. I still repeat someone should be held accountable for this and lessons should be learnt.

Part of the risk of on line trading is the risk that your broker may have connectivity issues and you can not trade. The best option is to have a backup broker , if the market turns against you at least you can take the opposite side with the other broker.
Ok so you want to have legal recourse here and you think on line firms should be accountable for every time you lose money because their system goes down??
Then be prepared to pay through your ass on commissions.
FYI – IB has redundant servers .
How many on line brokers have you traded with , my guess is only IB . My other guess is that you are new to on line trading .
I have used a lot of on line brokers over the years , every one has had days like today .
I am sorry to say this but you sound very naïve. Maybe you can call Judge Judy !! :-}

Most brokers allow you to trade via phone when their servers go down. The problem is trying to get someone on the phone to place your trade. Glad to hear your other broker did not have issues today, that is why it is a good idea to have more then one. Trust me your other broker will have down time, they probably already have and you were not logged in to see it.
And this other broker that has never gone down in 11 years is ?? And the commission rates you pay are ??

Every broker has downtime but the problem is how much downtime they have.

It is not the first time IB is down like today. There are people reported IB has been down lately. So it's not just ad-hoc incident.
