I've noticed the same thing. Until Baron decides to reign in the bashing from the small percentage of worthless idiots, I would think the trend would continue.
My suggestion continues to be to allow thread starters to moderate their own threads by banning specific posters from posting on their threads and enabling them to delete (but not modify the content of) posts on their thread. Until something like this is done, IMO, many successful traders will avoid posting frequently on ET as they tire of seeing their posts constantly dumped upon by the few clueless, immature and totally worthless idiots that ET is stuck with.
Possibly this self-moderating feature could be a priviledge that is 'earned' by being an ET member for at least one or two years, and could be revoked if the member is a constant source of problems on the site.

Very true indeed. Tried to post something helpful recently only to get blasted by some strange unwarranted angry rant. How someone can be profitable in trading when they're so upset about life is beyond me. At least there is an ignore feature on the site.
Also many people like to equate a high number of posts with credibility for some reason. If anything this may indicate spending/wasting more time posting on ET than trading. I'd like to see a way to rate or rank posts/users. And that rating can be displayed where the number of posts is now. Maybe that would put a few egos in check. Then again, thatâs probably wishful thinking.

I have no confidence in baron to do the right thing. Why would anyone? And with each day that he allows alex/spectra to continue to do what he does (and other parasites), queen baron shows his true colors. It's obvious baron could not care less about successful traders posting quality content.
Your idea is a great one, and would certainly solve the problem. They owe you a debt of gratitude for sharing your helpful idea. Let me know if you get it.

I don't know if this could make any sense, but we could separate the "Trading" forum into "Investing" and "Day Trading". For the Day Trading forum (doesn't have to be that name, but whatever) we could make it highly moderated where any off-topic, insulting, profane, etc. commentary is immediately exorcised into oblivion, and frequent detractors banned.
We could do this with the existing forum software, without upgrading (which seems to be the limitations of what Baron is willing to do at this point).

For me, if such a feature is limited to a single forum, I would suggest to do it in the Journals forum. If this is done, I would expect to see a large increase in the number of threads (and quality thread) in that forum. By implementation on the Journals forum, the OP would have more free reign over the threads topic, and not limited to a single narrow topic.
That said, I'm not sure why you would want to limit expanded quality on ET to a single forum. Note that I'm not suggesting that the existing moderating be eliminated, I'm only suggesting that a new 'power' be granted to the thread starter (similar to what has been done on other sites, such as Silicon Investor back in the day...).
Baron's had plenty of time to respond to this sort of suggestion, but has chosen to remain silent. This is just one example:

For what it's worth, I would submit this as an example of a 'quality' thread that was destroyed, but could have been saved with the suggested feature:

By reading that thread, you can see how a few immature knuckleheads can destroy an otherwise high-quality thread, despite the use of the ignore feature by many. As a result, successful traders and would-be quality content providers don't bother posting often, IMO.

I'm suggesting to limit it to a single forum for several reasons:
1. The management of this site does not wish to upgrade the forum software to include the necessary tools able to accomplish what would be necessary to moderate site-wide proposed policy. This is just my guess.
2. I also don't believe that management desires to strong hand the entire forum, though my personal belief lies more in agreeing with you guys that it is necessary to maintain quality posts on this site.
3. Implementing tough moderation in one forum is possible with the moderators we have. Doing it site wide is impossible as it would require a 24/7 presence. And none of us get paid to do this. In other words, there are far too many forum clowns for the cops we have in service.
I would volunteer to heavily moderate the one forum of choice (Journals, Day Trading, whatever). Unless the majority of you believe that I would not be a good choice - then I would advise you to pick one who would.
Let me know if there is enough support for this, and I will submit the idea to Baron/Joe - or perhaps they will read this and post their thoughts.
