I noticed the known successful traders don't post anymore.

Quote from Ivanovich:

I'm suggesting to limit it to a single forum for several reasons:

1. The management of this site does not wish to upgrade the forum software to include the necessary tools able to accomplish what would be necessary to moderate site-wide proposed policy. This is just my guess.

2. I also don't believe that management desires to strong hand the entire forum, though my personal belief lies more in agreeing with you guys that it is necessary to maintain quality posts on this site.

3. Implementing tough moderation in one forum is possible with the moderators we have. Doing it site wide is impossible as it would require a 24/7 presence. And none of us get paid to do this. In other words, there are far too many forum clowns for the cops we have in service.

I would volunteer to heavily moderate the one forum of choice (Journals, Day Trading, whatever). Unless the majority of you believe that I would not be a good choice - then I would advise you to pick one who would.

Let me know if there is enough support for this, and I will submit the idea to Baron/Joe - or perhaps they will read this and post their thoughts.

While I would have no objections to heavy moderating from you or someone else, I think this would be a bandage with minimal 'bang for the buck' to address the issue. Allowing self moderating by the thread starter (in addition to the existing moderation) is the best solution IMO. However, it's Baron's site and he must weigh the costs of making site improvements with the risk of seeing his site content become increasingly worthless drivel.

As I said, this is all I can offer as a suggestion at this time.

Why not just write what you want to write and read the posts of the posters you respect?

Instead of this being a "place that successful traders no longer come to", my impression is that its become a place where "lots of people are trying to get others banned and deleted".

Simple solution - require registration with a credit card and $1/month fee for posting on ET. If you find value in ET, $12/year will not keep you from coming here. But it will prevent multiple aliases and make it easier to ban idiots once and for all.

Agreed.

Simply take this idea and combine it with the "Expert" forum that Ivanovich is suggesting. A "tag" on your log-in password would give you access to this specific Forum.

Perhaps this would bring back some of the Longhorns of the world that used to post on ET.

Quote from EricP:

I've noticed the same thing. Until Baron decides to reign in the bashing from the small percentage of worthless idiots, I would think the trend would continue.

My suggestion continues to be to allow thread starters to moderate their own threads by banning specific posters from posting on their threads and enabling them to delete (but not modify the content of) posts on their thread. Until something like this is done, IMO, many successful traders will avoid posting frequently on ET as they tire of seeing their posts constantly dumped upon by the few clueless, immature and totally worthless idiots that ET is stuck with.

Possibly this self-moderating feature could be a priviledge that is 'earned' by being an ET member for at least one or two years, and could be revoked if the member is a constant source of problems on the site.

I agree, the ability to delete posts in your OWN threads is a great idea. Especially if it was in the journal section.

even better than the ignore features, is to stay out of threads based on thread title.

If not interested in prop firms or other categories, stay out of them.

When you see a thread title ranting against Republicans, Democrats, or trading styles or other things, then don't open the thread.

But most people HAVE to rubberneck (people in the opposite lane who slow down to look at accidents)

TRUE

In addition, all user IDs you have on ignore should be selectable to be unable to post in your threads...

Quote from MandelbrotSet:

Stop worrying about what other people do.
Worry about yourself.

Wow, what a hypocrite.
That is all you do Jimmy Jam is worry about what other people are doing.

Has anyone not thought of the following possibilities as to why people do not post anymore?

1) They have moved on for reasons of their own...for example, they have a family now and simply dont have the time to be hanging out on a message board.

2) They have extracted as much knowledge as they can from the website and need something different.

3) They blew their accounts and no longer desire to trade.

4) They just dont care about the drama of a message board and want to focus their thinking on trading.

etc. etc.

Its a natural event that people eventually move on in life to something different. Web admins know and accept this fact. Therefore, they focus on getting in new members rather then existing members. The existing members will move on eventually for whatever reason...

The reality is that Longhorns at Assent would have moved on anyways no matter what happened. It was just a matter of time before he blew his account using these highly leveraged strategies and now he is selling Caterpillar tractors to some random farmer in the middle of Texas. Thats just fate and destiny and has nothing to do with the website administrator.
