You know by the time they get around to questioning people in investigations like this they already know what they have on them and it is more of a chance to get more info, catch them in perjury or leverage the subject to give up someone else.
I don’t see Trump as having any other option though and I don’t know why Mueller is playing ball with him on the line of questions. If they don’t like the questions, fine, sit him in front of the grand jury.

Mueller is finding out that he is the one without options. He either has to go with the limited scope that Trump will agree to or else Trump/Guliani will just do nothing.
