I did it!...I just configured and ordered a Athlon Dual Core from CyberPowerSystems

I just got my new Soyo mobo/3ghz multithreading Intel processor up and running. It really is quick compared to the 2.4Ghz one that died on me. I wonder what is making the big diff? Processor clock rate is 25% faster but the difference is a lot more than 25%. It must be the mobo. The drives, video card, etc. are all the same stuff.

Probably because of a faster FSB (front side bus).

WTF is a Soyo mobo?? some kind of motherboard? What makes it special?? Where did you order your machine?

(sorry for all the questions --I am pricing out new gear this holiday weekend and am trying to come up to date on this tech stuff)

Suggest you visit Newegg.com and check out various mobos + their customer feedback. Anything with maybe 20-30 or more responses and an average rating of 5/5 is probably going to be good. (*Some* Soyo mobos have been given low marks from buyers.)

Thanks I just looked them up. I asked this on the page before but did not get any responses. Do any of you guys running Unix know of any technical analysis that run on Unix?? Or are you running custom programs on Unix??

I grabbed the Soyo Motherboard at Best Buy and did not shop or check reviews, just intuition all the way that time. It's fine so far. I am not that critical about things like that, if it works and I feel good about it I am a happy guy. Apparently that bus speed is important. I ran a system tool and it told me the bus was in the 400mHz range, they go higher than that. You need to catch up on front side bus speed options and multithreading at the very least probably. Lots of ram is always good but I am getting by with 1Gbyte and it seems to be no problem at all.

It depends on CPU/system but if it's a Pentium 4 it should be at least a 800 Mhz (quad-pumped) FsB; 955 chipset can manages 1Ghz FSB, too.

I just put together a new system!!!!!

K8N Neo4 motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3500
2 gig of ram DDR400
Nvidia NX 6200TC duel monitor support
160gig drive 7200 RPM
Case with LCD temp on it.

ITS AWESOME!

Compaq Presario ... some prebuilt one

AMD 64 XP 3500+
1.5gig 3200 DDR
200Gig Matrox 7200rpm
160Gig Seagate 7200rpm

Gigabyte Nvidia Gefroce 6600GT 128MB DVI/VGA PCI-E (2monitors)
(some brand) Nvidia Geforce 5200 128MB DVI/VGA PCI (2monitors)

ATI X300 onborad (disabled)

Yea, mine is also PCI-E

How much was that system?

A general question...For trading, you don't really need a top graphics card do you? Like I have a $100 card with DVI/VGA PCI-E, 128mb. That is good enough right?
