I did it!...I just configured and ordered a Athlon Dual Core from CyberPowerSystems

Do I really need 64 bit?....do I really need dual core????

Damn...I am miserable....I need a more screen real estate and a back up computer...in case my old Pentium III dies...

P.S. Now mark my words in the next week the Pentium III dies...I have the two laptops but I cannot see all my charts if this were to happen...then I guess I would need to run down to Comp USA and get an emergency computer then when I can figure this out, return it.

When I custom ordered my system (AMD dual core processor) last fall, I had an option to include XP 64 at no extra cost. The friendly folks over at Monarch Computers advised against XP 64 as significant hardware and software compatibility issues existed. I went with XP Pro instead. If you stick with XP 64, prepare for many headaches.

That's the problem. Some stuff works on it, some not. Drivers in general, are iffy.

If all they sell is 64 bit, buy from someone else.
 
They advised me to buy windows XP pro and just run that on the 64 bit system....I just cannot figure out why people would do this? The service packs will not allow 64 bit users to get the fixes, unless they have the 64 bit XP pro...

You are making this way too hard. What is your problem? Have it all installed so it's works right out of the box then add your junk to it. Christ your going to have a heart attack.

I've built computers, installed everything myself from scratch and it is ^&*% easy.
 
But why should I get a 64 bit system, if it ships 32 bit enabled? I cannot even get the correct operating system for the 64 bit...as it has bugs...

OK, here's a solution. Have someone build you this....

Intel P4, 2.80Ghz (C or E), 865PE or 875P chipset, AGP mobo with 5 PCI slots.

1GB RAM

WinXP Pro OEM

It will have plenty of horsepower and not be too noisy.
