Huge Losses

Quote from Ripley:

I always find myself on the opposite end of a huge move. What gives? I don't know.

Maybe it is because I only move my stops, and don't mess with my profit targets.

I think it is because I am doing something wrong when trying to follow trends. And this following excerpt is just what I am doing wrong. I am trying to follow prices when they look abnormal without realizing that they are that for a reason.

I think Mr. Eckhardt said it best: There is what I refer to as "the call of the countertrend." There's a constellation of cognitive and emotional factors that makes people autmatically countertrend in their approach. People want to buy cheap and sell dear; this by itself makes them countertrend. But the notion of cheapness or dearness must be anchored to something. People tend to view the prices they're used to as normal and prices removed from these levels as aberrant. This perspective leads people to trade counter to an emerging trend on the assumption that prices will eventually return to "normal." Therein lies the path to disaster.

Here is one of my typical trades. And thats the first trade I had after the weekend and a lot of soul searching etc and that trade took a lot out of me.

This is a powerful observation, but you must take it to heart. In another post you mentioned some MA pointing down. so what? You derive the dominant trend from a higher timeframe, not the one you're using for entries. The idea of taking a position against the dominant trend must become totally abhorrent to you.

You want to hear about a huge loss??? How does losing your hedge fund and all your client's money sound. That's right... I lost a majority of the money using Technical analysis techniques i do not understand, but represented that i did to clients. The rest my partner and brother stole.

That is right... i am a crook!

Guys,
...

Help a fellow trader out!!! :D

Thanks.

is this a Ripley Believe it or Not in the making, I just put it here just in case it is, now back to regular program...

it is so sad when a trader has to sell his prize processions to make end meet, I had been working with this guy and it look like he finally turn it around, what I take from the experience are
1) you got to have some sort of money making method (which look like you have)
2) you need to stop repeating the same pattern of trading (doing same thing and expect diff result)
3) Douglas' trading in the zone p.55, it help him, might it help you too, good luck.

Quote from Ripley:

SMAs were down. And there was this small pull back to the top, and thinking that the prices were headed down to establish the lows of the usual daily range, I jumped the gun and shorted it.

Even then, my supposed system should allow me to get in anywhere, anytime and be alright if I could stick to my own rules.

Ripley I went short about where you did. I then got stopped out. Then I went long when it made the breakout around 2p. You have to think that your stops do you a favor, they get you flat quicky when you are wrong, so you can live to trade again, maybe this time with some new information. You have to learn to like taking stops because they reinforce that you are doing the right thing and following your plans.

This thread is so breath-taking, I'm calling shananigans. Every single choice and action Ripley has had is the worst possible choice.

Just like winners, nobody can consistently lose this big this quick....he's too good of a fade, this can't be real. And the credit card, the ebay....no way.

Ripley, I'm storry but unless you post some position statements or something I don't believe you.

(btw, if I'm wrong STOP TRADING THIS INSTANT!!! YOUR TRADING IS MAKING BABY JESUS CRY ITS SO BAD!!! STOP NOW)

I am sorry that this may seem surreal to you guys, which still kind of leaves me baffled. Only rational explation would be that I used to win quite a lot of "Most Unique" superlatives when I was young. Here is the last trade with the account statement. I just can't believe somebody just couldn't believe me..
