How would a SWIFT ban impact owning Russian stocks?

I just called VanEck. They said they would try to track the RSX with highly correlated assets when they can't trade the securities. Not sure if I can trust them lol.

that gets dangerous. but do they currently have holdings. like do they kind of become a closed end fund now?

i'm also thinking of buying a small position as a call option.

Remember guys, when those Russian equities go under, the stockholders gets only pennies on the dollar at best. The bond-holders get first dibs. And I'm not sure they'll even pay out to US-holders. That is one of the big risks. Someone prove me wrong here.

That said, them Rosskie little shits better worry about them big Ukrainian assholes even more now. :D German 'stinger' deliveries to Ukraine are going to put the STING into Russian Stonk-Tanks.

I can just see the old Russian vets right now fuming in anger at Germany while shaking their fists about the news. "Why'd you fuck us again bro?"

@IntergalacticSpace and @kmgilroy89 are you Russian trolls?

Strange that intergalacticspace is already on ET since 2016 with only 18 posts from which 13 are from the last 12 months.
Why would Russian trolls waste their time posting on ET of all places?

All I'm saying is that the fundamentals of Russian stocks are favorable relative to many other markets across the globe based on a variety of factors (P/E, P/B, P/S, Schiller P/E, market cap to GDP, historical currency, % down, volatility, etc). The old adage of be greedy when others are fearful is easier said than done...

Can't they just buy total return swaps from banks and remain as an ETF? Not sure about whether that violates any sanctions but that seems like the path of least resistance.

The irony is that BOTH Ukraine & Russia are pumping up crypto markets today.

The stockmarket in North Korea is very interesting too. But Russian and NK stockmarkets have one problem: they are controlled by dictators. And that's never good. The dictator makes and changes the rules for his maximum profit. Today Russian decided not to accept any orders from outside Russia to sell stocks. You see how reliable they are. What would you do if you had stocks and wanted to sell now on a stop? Nothing, just get slaughtered.

Moscow stock exchange open pushed back, sell orders from foreigners banned (CNN)

I know a person who opened 3 Mc Donalds somewhere in Russia. They were friendly and helpfull. After 2-3 years the business was running very well. Then a man came to him and gave him a cheque. The man asked the Russian why he got this cheque. The Russian answered: from now on these 3 Mc Donalds are mine. You should be gratefull that you are still alive. And now go.

You probably understand already that it was a very low price he got for his 3 restaurants.

This is not a story, it really happened many years ago. Must have been around +20 years ago.
