How Tea Party tax cuts are turning Kansas into a smoking ruin

One would think that the question of whether incentive economics is superior to command economics would have been settled after the implosion of the USSR. It really takes some kind of persuasion from high minded professors to convince people that the US incentive economics was the loser in that battle. Yet here we are. The 'learned' among us want us to believe that command economics won and it was settled long ago by very diligent studies. I'm starting to think that global warming scientists learned how to adjust data from marxist economists.

I'd say the federal reserve is doing a little smoking and ruining in their effort to central plan.

Studies in all-or-nothing thinking:

  • Regulation: "Oh, the regulation in place didn't solve the problem. Therefore, there should be no regulation."
  • The Fed: "Gosh, the Fed isn't acting exactly how and when I think it should. There should be no Fed."
  • Keynesian economic policy: "What? So-called Keynesianism is being misapplied by self-serving politicians? That means Keynesian theory is flawed. Therefore, there should be no intervention. Talk to the (invisible) hand.

Your question is a good one. Generally when companies are retrenching during "tough times" government is leveraging up, or certainly should be, to counter this trend. This is the proper role of government, so you can expect that when times are tough you will see additional debt taken on by government .

Now for the vice versa. Well, that's where government hasn't been quite so good at managing its affairs. If this present great recession cycle is anything like that of the great depression we can expect at least another three to five years of a comparatively weak U.S. economy. We could have done much better by spending far more on stimulus and investment on the government side, but it is so difficult to get what needs to be done done when you're having to convince a House and Senate controlled by Fried Chicken Franchise owners. What do they know of macro economics? I'll answer my own question: "Virtually nothing!" In fact, the only segment of society that knows even less, en masse, then our legislators, are everyday ET and Wall Street traders. You can see proof of that right here on ET.

When I first read your post I thought it was from Ricter. They don't get much more obtuse. Why would anyone need to know about macro economics in order to do what is in his/her best interest?

the problem with you Keynesians is you blew your wad when times were relatively good. Its one thing for the govt to try push things along when the economy slows and they aren't loaded down with record debt! Its another to try and do it when they are loaded down with record debt and want to pile on more. If he were alive today, Keynes would view what you want to do as economic porn.

There is a clear and inescapable conclusion to be drawn from that poll, viz., education is a threat to the Republican party. This would explain very nicely why they are doing their utmost to do away with it! You don't need to be educated to operate a chain of fried chicken franchises, and you certainly don't need an education to get rich, so why bother?

Please explain the steps republicans are taking to "do away" with education.

Or is this similar to requiring an ID to vote is equivalent to reinstituting slavery?

Our debt is not at a record, it has been higher in the past.

May not need to be educated to run a business but you need to be smart, you can get an education without being smart, but you cant run a successfull business without being smart. Give me a man who is smart, or a man who is educated, and ill take the smart guy ten times out of ten, Smart people produce, educated people teach. Educated people only know how to regurgitate theories that are taught to them, smart people create the concepts.

Would you consider the people at CERN smart or educated? Would you consider the guy running a pizza shop smart? How about the people at NASA? I think you need better terminology.

Yah, right, like those uneducated, smart people that 'conceived' the transistor, the laser, integrated circuits, the compact disc, digital electronics, analog and digital computers, antibiotics, antivirals, HIV protease inhibitors, magnetic recording, the jet engine, the space shuttle, the space station, nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, breeder reactors, oscillator circuits, the oscilloscope, nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers, electron spin spectrometers, aspherical optics, chemotherapeutic agents, electron microscopy, atomic force microscopes, LEDs, LCDs, nylon, neoprene, kevlar, teflon, polystyrene, polyethylene, saran wrap, acrylic polymers and paints, polypropylene, galvanizing, zinc rich primers, epoxy coatings, urethane foams, carbon fiber, frequency modulation, Fourier transform spectrometry, the ultra centrifuge, radio dating, color photography, color television, digital photography, the lithium ion battery, the polymerase chain reaction, electrophoresis, the ultra centrifuge, scintillation counting, xray, xray crystallography, xray fluorescence spectroscopy, flash photolysis, xray diffraction, ellipsometry, protein synthesizers, nucleic acid synthesizers, nuclear activation analysis, reverse transcriptase, enzymes, pesticides, herbicides, Post it notes, and maybe a couple other things.

Yah, you're right, maxipad, who needs an education? All we really need is a bunch of smart, uneducated people like you!

They're starving the public school systems in States with republican governors. They want the public universities to emphasize job training!!! Job training and education are NOT the same thing.
