I have said that all along. Where the rubber meets the road, the market hates trade wars.
China holds the upper hand and Trump will have no choice but to cave. Unless Wall Street votes in his favor. They can do that ya know. It is true... China needs us more than we need them. Its all politics buddy. Money.
Its too bad really. Taking a hard line on IP theft was (is) the right thing to do. F China.

But the stealing is still going on. Nothing has changed and Trump is already negotiating and bailing out the grain market.

If he wanted to target IP theft, he should have targeted those industries specifically instead of bullying his way and then caving when the heat is on.

The thing about underestimating the guy that's economically under you, is that he's live it, he can take it. You're not going to win a "comfort" war when you bitch about internet speeds or someone getting your order wrong at a fast food joint.

Hey... you need to understand something....I am not arguing this one way or the other, I'm simply calling the game here like Herbstreet on Saturday. H4 is right. Trump will cave to WS more than likely. IP theft will continue. Nothing will get done. But he did try. Other's have not.

I am saying there were better ways - for example he could have targeted component manufacturers for tariffs who supply parts to Chinese companies that make copycat devices and a series of small non-hyped measures but as usual he thinks he could bully his way through and lost again. He didn't try, he made a scene of it because he doesn't care about winning on the issue but would settle for winning in public perception.

I will grant that China hurting economically via Trump (and they are) will likely make them think twice about their economic actions....at least at the "private" level. Government is a whole 'nother ball game.

Still don't think the benefits will outweigh the results....we've lost credibility at the world stage, have gained scorn and have given China a win in the PR department. China will come out ahead in the world's eyes and will have ceded a lot of economic ground to them.

Somewhere in one of these many threads, I posted a link to a PDF file... I'll see if I can find it. A recent report.
They aren't just stealing circuit board crap dude. Its everything. From electronics to biotech to agricultural science. They are stealing it all. Its not that we shouldn't share if its not not national security type secrets... its just that they need to pay the fuck up. Its theft dude. Theft. Across the board in EVERY sector.

And by the way, IP theft is not unique to US, Chinese are stealing from everyone and if Trump was serious about it, he would have created a consensus especially among Europeans and went about it smartly. But of course, strategy is not his thing, he likes to pretend to be the strong guy and then lose while throwing tantrums.
