How many does daytraders make in nowadays markets?

Quote from Thunderdog:

I'm sorry, spyderman, but you are way off. Assuming that the poster was indeed referring to 300% per month rather than on an annualized basis, and assuming that he compounded at least monthly to account for the larger bet size resulting from the added equity in his account, then his annualized return after monthly compounding is, in fact, 16,777,216.00%. The calculation is easy enough: 4 to the power of 12. (4 represents 1, the multiple of his initial capital, + 3 representing the 300% increase per period, in this case being monthly. The 12 represents the number of months.) Alternatively, you can calculate it "manually" month to month. So, if we were to invest a mere $1,000 with this kindly gentleman, we would have an account at the end of the year in the amount of $16,777,216,000.00. Pretty heady stuff! Heck, put me in for $5.
Actually, the annualized return after compounding is 16,777,215% - you forgot to deduct the principal.

You made 2 mistakes, Thunderdog - it should be 1,677,721,500%.

Hmmm. I think you stubbed your toe on that one, Mr. Sub. Care to explain?

Sure. Take a simple case of doubling your money in one period of time, say a year, which we know is a 100% return. The formula for the rate of return is :

(1+1)^1 - 1 = 1

To convert this to a percentage, we must multiply by 100, giving us 100%. So my friend, you forgot to

(1) subtract the 1 (principal), and
(2) multiply the final result by 100.

Double damn! You're right again. I may have to change my name.

In my defense, it has been just over 19 years since I studied finance in school. Further, we did not deal in percentage returns calculated in the billions, so I guess I'm out of my elements. I guess I just lost my compass amidst all those digits. Humbling indeed.

Quote from IN2WIN:

I could not disagree with you more!

I trade purely mechanically and generate over 300% return every month for the past four plus years.

I'll stack that against "discretionary gut" traders any time!

You're a lying sack of shit. 90% of your post's are you posturing in a shameless manner for business. 300% every month. ROFL!!!!! So 36 months ago on a beginning account balance of 10k if compounded at 3000% a year you would be worth 297 MILLION DOLLARS. Oh but I know you're not worth that much cause the liquidity in ES just dosen't allow you to trade 800,000 contracts at a clip. LOL. Baron, ban this prick.
