back to the original question, it is possible for both pro's and retail to make money. You must use different methods for each and you must have proper stops and test your plan before putting your money out in the market.

There are people who make money in anything and people who lose money in every field. But just trading futures because someone said they make X% means nothing. You must find a market that suits your trading style.

Most people on ET and most people anywhere aren't going to tell you what they make. Short answer: the world is your oyster.

Funny damn thing is I'm not a bit interested in making this percentage or that .. don't care. I only want to be doubling my capital and raising my playing stakes each time in accordance with pro rata risk control and money management. Taking out money (certainly early stages) to live on thoroughly defeats the purpose of amassing a greater and greater fortune.

Assuming that the poster was indeed referring to 300% per month rather than on an annualized basis, and assuming that he compounded at least monthly to account for the larger bet size resulting from the added equity in his account, then his annualized return after monthly compounding is, in fact, 16,777,216.00%. The calculation is easy enough: 4 to the power of 12. (4 represents 1, the multiple of his initial capital, + 3 representing the 300% increase per period, in this case being monthly. The 12 represents the number of months.) Alternatively, you can calculate it "manually" month to month. So, if we were to invest a mere $1,000 with this kindly gentleman, we would have an account at the end of the year in the amount of $16,777,216,000.00. Pretty heady stuff! Heck, put me in for $5.

Given the opportunity cost, though, perhaps there is something to be said for "savings" versus consumption. If he could just see his way to set aside that extra $1,000 for trading only at the beginning of the year, he could then become a multi-billionaire at the end of that year. Admittedly, it would require some restraint - after all, the latest Hummers and Bimmers are constantly sounding their siren call.
