Jeh Johnson: Gun control is now a matter of homeland security

Just days after the massacre in an Orlando nightclub left 49 people dead and 53 wounded, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson on Tuesday said that gun control is now a critical element of protecting the U.S. homeland and keeping Americans safe.

"We have to face the fact that meaningful gun control has to be a part of homeland security," Johnson said in an interview on "CBS This Morning." "We need to do something to minimize the opportunity for terrorists to get a gun in this country."

On the issue of people on the no-fly list and various other lists being able to purchase a weapon in the U.S., Johnson said, "I believe that that's something that has to be addressed."

Johnson said that President Obama is "frustrated" with the lack of action on preventing gun violence, but he's still "determined."

"I thought frankly after Sandy Hook where you have schoolchildren murdered in a classroom that maybe finally this will be the tipping point and we were not able to move the needle in Congress, unfortunately," Johnson said.

Remember. It's a gun problem. Radical Islamic extremism has nothing to do with it.....

Obama finally uttered the term last night, after Trump forced him to back-peddle. According to Obama, it makes no sense to call the truth, the truth. Why call the sky blue? The grass, green? Or the ocean, wet? What good does it serve to acknowledge truth and facts when you're a social engineer?

Bring in more immigrants from muslim countries! Begin disarming Americans!-- Excruciatingly painful and accurate paraphrase of Barrack Obama

no rational human being is against sensible gun control.

only the hardcore gun nuts
I think we're all hung up on how this issue is framed by those that just want the issue without a solution. This goes for both sides. All we want, we being reasonable people, is for some kind of responsible gun ownership with firearms bought through reasonable and legal means. Yes, yes, yes, the criminals won't obey the law. Whatever. Doesn't mean we shouldn't at least use some common sense when it comes to the buying and selling of firearms. And while I do not support bans per say, I can live with someone having to jump through another hoop or two if they're looking for weapons that are more geared towards rapid fire, quick re-loading and built to kill large numbers of whatever the target is. In short, you want an AR-15 style weapon...why? And you better be squeaky clean. I also think getting a CC should be really difficult. REALLY difficult. Not impossible, but simply wanting one ain't enough. Why do you "need" one? And of your answer is because you're afraid the US Army is coming for you, that alone is reason enough to deny the permit, cause you're obviously a couple fries short of a Happy Meal. There, I think I have offended all the unreasonable people on both sides.

well thought out post but here we may differ:

"In short, you want an AR-15 style weapon...why? And you better be squeaky clean."
