You can buy an AR from the corner store here. All this gun control talk has induced me to buy one even though I'm not a big fan of .223 and I'm also picking up some 30 round mags for the big girl, my .308.

You need a .223 in case you must take ammo from LE or the local National Guard armory. Also .223 ammo may have some barter value as it is so common.

The government can yammer about gun control all it wants. I will own what I need regardless of what some asinine politician says.

That's nice.

Some states and cities, eg NYC, have laws like this. So who gets a CC permit? Celebs, politicos, the well-connected. The ordinary citizen doesn't. In Washington, DC the fact that you live, work or travel in a crime-ridden area is not deemed adequate justification. I have a problem with that. I also have a problem with the concept that I have to justify my desire to own a firearm or carry one to a government bureaucrat.

Let's face it, our government is currently incompetent and intentionally pursuing suicidal policies. But we have to get their permission to protect ourselves?
I get where you're coming from and can't disagree. I'm just putting out what I believe would be reasonable ideas that might be viable policies if we didn't have such a criminally corrupt and totally incompetent government. As I wrote in a post yesterday, it's more about lack of trust than anything else, and those in government have proven themselves time and again to have a strong proclivity for abuse of power.

Yep. Nothing you can do about it except have another drink probably in your case.

Around here it looks like people are preparing in advance for some kind of gun control legislation. It is fair to say that many here will ignore whatever the federal government decries.

There are state guns laws and they are enforced pretty rigorously. There is a lot of compliance with state gun laws here but outlawing entire classes of weaponry is a non-starter, a deeply liberal state too.

The gun control issue doesn't split cleanly down the liberal/conservative line. There are a ton of liberal second amendment supporters.

That's a good deal for ya.

Someone should introduce you to the "no internet posting when drinking" rule. You would benefit from it.

If you are gonna drink, possibly an everyday thing for you, you should avoid operating heavy machinery, aircraft, boats, lawnmowers and any other motorized vehicles. No telephones, email or posting to internet forums. Don't undertake large decisions or purchases. Make sure you come home to the right house.

Probably you should write those down somewhere.

You always think I'm drinking, but I'm not drinking. This means your thinking is faulty. Reminds me of a moron from Georgia that used to post here. You're not in Georgia, are you?
