LESS THAN A month after Democrats — many of them running on “Medicare for All” — won back control of the House of Representatives in November, the top health policy aide to then-prospective House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met with Blue Cross Blue Shield executives and assured them that party leadership had strong reservations about single-payer health care and was more focused on lowering drug prices, according to sources familiar with the meeting.

Pelosi adviser Wendell Primus detailed five objections to Medicare for All and said that Democrats would be allies to the insurance industry in the fight against single-payer health care. Primus pitched the insurers on supporting Democrats on efforts to shrink drug prices, specifically by backing a number of measures that the pharmaceutical lobby is opposing.

The irony is that neither party seems to have figured out that a nationalist message on trade, foreign policy, and immigration combined with selected progressive policies on healthcare (e.g. single payer or public option) and various labor issues like paid vacation, maternity leave etc. would likely have broad appeal, and be difficult to counter. For a second, a few years ago, it looked like Trump of all people might be getting it - though obviously that went nowhere.

I’m looking at Russia dominating foreign policy, economic growth flattening to receding and American birth rates declining right now and we are in full swing nationalist trade and foreign policy. Hell, we are talking about handing over immigration to big business based on what they need. I’m not sure we can get more “nationalist” than that.

Withdrawal from Afghanistan and Syria, no more foreign meddling, require strict reciprocity on trade, no more Chinese cheating and theft, zero tolerance for border jumpers and visa overstayers, reform of refugee/asylum procedures to prevent current scams, construction of massive, Israeli-style border wall, to be financed by a couple of weeks savings from foreign wars.

Trump should outflank the dems on populist economic policies. Endorse AOC's hyper tax on zillionaires. It will mainly hit athletes and entertainers, not a core republican demo. Do something on student loan debt. We bailed out Wall Street, how is this not as deserving? Freeing a significant percent age of students from crushing debt will energize the economy, as they can now buy homes, etc.

I’m looking at Russia dominating foreign policy, economic growth flattening to receding and American birth rates declining right now and we are in full swing nationalist trade and foreign policy. Suffice it to say that I think "invade the world, invite the world" is an utterly destructive combo of policies which both parties have happily pursued for years. As is the practice of letting big business arbitrage poor labor conditions and environmental standards by shipping jobs and production to third-world countries.

And Russia? If there's one country that dominates our foreign policy, it's Israel. The recent obsession with Russia is just frankly bizarre.

With the exception of a hard line on immigration, you’re a democrat. You’re actually more aligned with AOC than Trump.

Here’s what I will say, the hard truth is we need immigration unless we get our birth rate up. Right now American women are having 1.6 children when we need 2.3. If we cut off immigration before we get our birth rate up we are done as a country.

You’re right about student loans, that is one area we can give millennials relief and get them buying homes and having babies. Also, retirement and healthcare will help too.

Hell, I will even support a tax on filthy rich liberals just to sock it to them! They keep lying about the tax cuts as only benefitting the rich. They are just pissed that they will be ones paying with their 3 mega mansions and mortgage interest capped at $10,000. Karma has hit these guys because of their lies. I imagine in extremely liberal states like California and New York, a tax on the filthy rich liberals will pass because there are more illegals voting in elections now and there are not enough conservatives to stop them! Even the RINO liberals will vote for it!
