Heaven is a fairy tale, says physicist Hawking

Quote from Kassz007:

What you're saying to me makes absolutely no sense. It might ring true with someone else, but personally I cannot make sense of your argument.

To me, it sounds like you are saying you believe in god because you don't really know what's out there, and you think you've experienced some sort of miracle(s) in your life, and that I will inevitably experience the same sort of miracle and come to realize that god exists. This makes no sense to me.

But I thank you for attempting to explain your reasoning. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

I did not say I have experienced miracles per se. I have said that I have experienced things that I, nor my peers could explain away. Kinda like UFOs. Four people get out of a car in the middle of a corn field and see a saucer. They look at each other, and then they look up again. The saucer flies away. Who do they tell?

With an atheist, there is no telling them about anything abstract. They can only grasp the concrete. Not passing a judgement, it is merely a matter of perception.

Quote from RCG Trader:

Understood, but your probabilities are based on what you perceive as a known data set. U might want to ask LTCM about that.

So the question then becomes why is my data set different from yours? What kind of data do you have that I don't, that assigns a higher probability of god existing in your mind than in mine?

So why, when something can't immediately be explained, do some people default to god? Why is it not enough to say "I don't know what the fuck that thing was in the sky".

Excellent question.

Life experience is what differentiates out data sets. You are an atheist and I am not because of our life paths. I have to admit that most atheists I have run into are pissed at religion, as I was. Once I realized that what is extra-normal has nothing to do with religion, I began to see things in a different light.

To me, God is a catch all for WTFWT? Now that is just my opinion.

Quote from Kassz007:

I openly admit that I, nor anyone, really knows for sure.

My question is why is your default position to believe in god? Is it not, at the very least, equally as possible that almost infinite universes exist as there is a god who created this whole shebang? Why do you automatically dismiss the claim that almost infinite other universes exist, or any other scientific theory as to how the universe came to be?

1. I do not dismiss it at all the multiverse hypothesis.... I consider it -- is possible... however at the moment it takes faith to believe in it.

2. ET athiest bozos keep saying there is no evidence of a creator.
I keep saying there is evidence ask the nobel prize winners.

3. I have said and still say it takes faith to believe in God and I understand that almost by definition faith could be wrong.

Barack Obama believes in God. He says so all the time. And we all know how smart and intellectual he is. As a matter of fact, 99% of the elected progressives in America proclaim their belief in a divinity.

Sounds like all of them are fucking idiots, according to our beloved ET God deniers anyway. Of course...I already knew that. :)

You have to say you believe in the invisible man in the sky or you won't get elected.

In america, it is quite common to find those who are pro-life and pro-war at the same time.

There's a reason why the jesus worshipers are generally poor and stupid.

Jews believe in a divinity. Don't leave them out. The last thing you want to do when you are making hypocritical value statements under the guise of progressive enlightenment is leave someone out.
