HDTV Posing as a High End Monitor?

Thanks for sharing that with your first post to these forums. :) I hadn't seen that one. Looks pretty good and it's inexpensive too. I'll give it a closer look. I've heard some good things about Dell monitors. And volente 00, who's been here as long as me, really likes it too. Thanks guys.

The S2409W is good too... for one with TN panel.

I have two Dell 2001FP's and they keep chugging along with no problems. One was made in 2004, the other 2005.

I am trying not to take advantage of this sale...lol

Yours likely have S-IPS panels. Few these day do.

I'm currently looking at this forum on a massive 37" Samsung TV. It works perfectly as a monitor - pixel perfect and puts my other dedicated monitors to shame.

To get it right, you have to go for a 1080p screen ie the resolution is 1920 x1080. You need to use the HDMI in for best results. On the computer if you don't have an HDMI out, you can a DVI to HDMI adapter, or a cable with a DVI (not VGA) connection at one end and HDMI at the other.

This thread's been helpful.

Couple questions. I thought hdmi just added sound over dvi. Why would you want to have hdmi input on your monitor? Someone said it gave better performance. Could someone explain that?

Also, about graphics cards. Does it really make a significant difference if you add a graphics card with dedicated memory? I like to watch some streaming sports on the computer occasionally and I was wondering what you really need to do to get a good quality picture.
