There are a lot of similarities to Poker. It is a game of chance that, if you rely on chance, or dreams or wishful thinking, will cost you a lot of money. It is a game where experience, study, skill, and smarts are needed to stay afloat. It is a game where money and risk management will help you live to trade another day. It is a game where playing emotionally will shrink your bankroll faster than smoking crack. It is a game full of both weak and strong players, and the strongest players generally take most of the cookies away from the table leaving the donks to wonder what the hell just happened.
The big difference is the degree to which you can pick the players you are up against. In Poker, when I realize I am at a table loaded with hardcore pros or really tough amateurs, I can walk away and wait for an easier table. In trading I can't do that directly, only get out of a play that I can see is going against me, and quit for the day if I am not running strong. TBH I don't think I have what it takes to play Poker for a living. Trading may prove to be slightly easier. But it is close.
Lessons learned at Poker sometimes carry over well into trading. Especially regarding bankroll/account management.
