RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) –
Vice President Kamala Harris is slated to pay a visit to the Triangle area next week along with her new running mate, officials with the Harris campaign revealed on Thursday.
Raleigh will be one of seven campaign stops for the presumptive Democratic nominee and her vice presidential selection, who has yet to be announced. Harris and her running mate plan to “crisscross the country” to meet with voters in battleground states and “highlight the stakes of this election,” according to a news release from the Harris campaign.
Harris will host her first rally on Tuesday in Philadelphia, and will then travel to Raleigh on Thursday, Aug. 8.
This marks her first trip to North Carolina since
President Joe Biden announced on July 21 that he’s no longer seeking re-election. Harris’ last visit to the state was when
she spoke in Fayetteville over two weeks ago. She and the president also
gave remarks in Raleigh back on March 26.
Other stops on the campaign trail include Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada.
North Carolina Gov.
Roy Cooper was previously among the short list for possible vice-president candidates until he withdrew himself from contention earlier this week.
Harris is expected to officially choose her running mate by Tuesday.
