Haha! Europeans puzzled at why Higher taxes=Less Revenue.

Quote from Tsing Tao:

Ever been to Costa Rica? Panama? Thailand? How about Hungary, or Armenia? That's just naming a few.

All third world, all very safe. Lots of expats. We're not talking suburb Tampa, here, but still, very safe.

Well, I concede that point. There are enough third world countries that would pass the test. On the other hand, how many families would be able to make that adjustment?

Years back I considered the sort of thing you speak of, but then the whole "creature comforts" became a drawback. For the right type of person, I have no doubt that they could move to any of the above countries and thrive. It's just that those are a very small percentage of the population (especially when you are talking about a family or someone middle-aged).

ricter? real world vs krugman... you see revenues go down when you raise taxes and up when you lower them.
We've been through this a dozen times. : )

Reagan saw revenues rise because he broke the bank with stimulative spending.

yea, yea, yea... and the sun came up today because a butterfly flapped its wings. you are using tobacco industry tricks and logic.

well what is your excuse with England raising taxes on the rich and renues went down.. while Bush lowered taxes on the rich and the revenues they paid went up?

Two-thirds of millionaires left Britain to avoid 50p tax rate
Almost two-thirds of the country’s million-pound earners disappeared from Britain after the introduction of the 50p top rate of tax, figures have disclosed.
By Robert Winnett 6:47PM GMT 27 Nov 2012

The number of people declaring incomes of more than £1m slumped from 16,000 to 6,000 after Gordon Brown introduced the new tax rules in 2010.The amount of tax paid by top earners fell from £13.4billion to £6.5billion as a result.

It is believed that rich Britons moved abroad or took steps to avoid paying the new levy by reducing their taxable incomes.Far from raising funds, it actually cost the UK £7 billion in lost tax revenue.

You are quoting from the Telegraph, which is well known to be a far right wing newspaper.

Quote from tomdavis:

We went on vacation to Costa Rica two years ago. Internet connection was lousy and our rental car was broken into the first day we got there.

The people are nice and the food was good, but it's not a place I would choose to live with children.

I mentioned Costa Rica as a response to Denner's comment on safety. Your internet connection and rental car notwithstanding, there is a reason it is called "the third world".

My point was, luring the world's rich would eventually bring all the money, and if used properly, could accelerate a country's place in the world fantastically.

I've spent a good deal of time in the third world. With a million dollars, I could establish quite the life. If I were rich (meaning many millions) I could easily vanish - and have no issue with it. Wife and child as well. There are tons of little expat communities out there if you know where to look.
