Isn't the gun death rate around that from automobiles, in the US?

It looks like our well regulated militia has met the enemy and he is us.

And it's obviously not well regulated.

YES...the rates are similar. However, gun death rates have increased via SUICIDE and auto deaths have declined because of better safety equipment,etc. They were far apart for a long time...until now!

That's the question. How to have EFFECTIVE regulation...where the citizens are protected, but more gun CONTROL of the criminals, crazies, and idiots. I agree, it could be better...but how? I don't agree with where the LEFT wants to take things...I don't have the solution either.

Because the solution isn't found in gun control. That ship has sailed. There are too many guns on the street already to restrict them. So instead, you have to focus on the why people want to kill others. Gangs, depression, etc. But unfortunately these are much more complex issues than simply saying "you can't own a gun". No one wants to put the time required and resources required to solve these complex issues. It's much easier to blame the inanimate object.

YES...these issues are very COMPLEX. I've thought about the MASSIVE RESOURCES it would take to JUST ATTEMPT a DIRECT and PSYCHOLOGICAL approach for determining WHO is likely to kill...impossible? Maybe some genius will discover a formula of genetics combined with environment for this determination...implementing a program would be COSTLY. Does't the government just PRINT MONEY to pay for things like this?:wtf:

time to outlaw the Manufacture of Handguns

you can then leave the 2nd amendment alone, and rifles - they're ok

over time, fewer and fewer Handguns would be in circulation,
for kids to get there hands on...

[of course, you also outlaw the import, export, selling and buying of Handguns]

rifles are fine for home protection

As for guns wearing out, you know little about guns, apparently. Guns can be maintained almost indefinitely with some relatively simple care. My uncle has an M1 Garand from 1942. Still shoots perfectly. I baby my weapons, and they will likely be passed on to my son 20 years from now - and they'll be as good as new.

You can't even use the "people would run out of ammo" argument, because it's not difficult to load your own ammo, all you need is the spent casings. You'd certainly cut down on the amount of ammunition spent in practice, that much would work.

Sure, it is possible that 50 or 75 years from now you might see a possible dent in the number of illegal guns, but with technology as it is now (3d gun printing) I can just imagine what you'd be able to do in 50 years.

On that last point, you can now 3d print a pistol that can fire 10 rounds. Imagine what 3D printing leaps will be made when you try to outlaw the manufacturing of guns.
