IshopatPublix, do you think that the government should just ignore constitutional rights and even supreme court rulings? Do you think that law abiding citizens should just allow such a government to violate the Bill of Rights and in fact allow their own tax dollars be used to take their most basic rights away from them?
In case you missed it, a federal appeals court just ruled that the state of Illinois must create a concealed carry system within 180 days as their current total ban is a violation of the second amendment. I am not sure if the US Supreme Court will uphold that law, but they have clearly ruled that a handgun ban is a violation of the 2nd Amendment.
To even attempt to ban currently owned semi-automatic rifles and especially handguns, the US govt would need to ignore the constitution and begin to arrest millions of Americans who would for sure violate the ban. Its not like as if there are 2000 or so people who own these weapons. There are millions upon millions of these weapons in the US. There is nowhere near enough police or jail space if even 10% of the population refused to follow the law and believe me the govt would be lucky to get 10% compliance.
I was watching a TV news show today and a reporter was explaining that not only are people buying the hell out of AR-15 variant rifles, but over 8000 people are joining the NRA everyday, more than even after Columbine and they have never experienced anything like that.
The US Constitution is showing its age. The fiscal cliff nonsense is a vivid illustration of why the presidential system is defective.
I personally prefer the Westminster System of Government. The majority party writes the budget and the idiocy we have now would never happen. If you cant get anything done the government collapses and you call for elections. You either do the job you were elected to do or GTFO.
