Government Motors has got problems again...

It's sad. One of America's truly great companies destroyed by unions, government and bad management.

IMO the unions bear the biggest brunt of what ultimately happened. I worked at the massive GM Tech Center back in the 80's. Lots of good R&D going on, times were good (i.e. profitable). But that was part of the problem ... every 3 year here comes the UAW for their contract negotiations. When GM was making $$$ the union demanded anything and everything knowing GM was making lots of $$$. So management was between a rock and a hard place ... if they balked then the union would threaten to strike. First they'd strike at a components part plant and ultimately the ripple effect of a lack of certain parts and we'd see assembly plants shut down. No cars rolling off the line and no inventory to the dealers. SO management would give in to the demands of the UAW. At the same time management compensation was excessive, no question about that. BOTH sides were greedy. Then the shit hit the fan ... and eventually the UAW realized they could no longer make their outlandish demands. They had to compromise and pick their battles wisely. By then things were in big trouble. Many auto towns in MI became ghost towns. I left to trade in the 90's and I saw that my house sold for about 55% of what I sold it for back in the late 90's, and that was in a nice Detroit suburb. Places like Flint, Saginaw and others are really bad from what I hear.

The 'Bad Weather' Excuse Is Not Valid - The Economy Is Tanking

For the most part, since the beginning of the year economic data reports have missed expectations and indicate that the economy is beginning to slow down or contract. It is also pretty clear that the "bad weather" narrative being promoted to explain the economic weakness is not valid. What is clear is that the economic weakness is being driven by a dramatic slowdown in spending by the consumer in all areas, including retail, autos and housing....

(more after the jump)

It's not faking something. It's making an excuse for it. It really did snow, there's no lies there. But weather isn't driving the soft economy. People just use it as an excuse. You need to stop drinking the kool aid, which will be hard for you, since you're so addicted to it.

The weather can and does soften the economy to some extent. Anyway, is this troll thread no longer about (non-existent) channel stuffing?

It was never really about channel stuffing to begin with (something you often laugh at but never disproved in any discussion I can recall).

The winter occurs every year. Thus, year over year comparisons regarding it being cold and snowy as an excuse for a poor economy is just that - a poor excuse. Feel free to debate any of this with fact, or hell, even data that is marginally factual, other than rhetoric.

Auto inventories peak every year at this time. All the makers are looking at higher than average inventory, higher because of the weather. "Government motors" no longer exists. The US population hit a record high in January 2014, will there be enough cars for all the new people!? ; )

Ironic isn't it. In one thread rectum says we're all going to die from global warming.
In another he blames high inventories and a weak economy on the...wait for it...unusually cold weather and increased snow falls.

Yes, every year this time.

I didn't even bother going down that alley, because I know how he'll try to spin it. It's a waste of time.
