Florida is different from many coastal states. In fact all of them. Let me count the ways...

1. Coral snakes. Arguably the deadliest snake in North America. If it bites you, you die soon.

2. Saw Palmettos. What the hell is the point of this plant? Razor sharp fronds that guard from being...eaten? Meanwhile, rubbing against their palms is like a slow-motion chainsaw on your leg.

3. Alligators. Well, they have them in other southern states, so whatever.

4. Freshwater Crocodiles. WTF is this now?!? Geez, we got Africa killers in the US?

5. Pythons. (OK, that is an invasive species. We just need to get the alligators to hunt them down and eat them.)

5. Every spider in the state.

Look, I am kinda' jesting here, because I really like Florida as a living space. It gives me fond memories. But it is the Australia of the USA, where every living thing tries to kill you. @themickey would be at home here.

But Mr. Gato, it is definitely different than other coastal states!

You are another child that ought to be ignored but can't actually achieve the level of annoyance necessary. In your case not being ignored is a mark of your harmlessness. Just a gnat I snap with a hand-towel while running.

My apology to the OP for this hijack. Some gnats needed snapping. It just came up.

The OP was discussing the storm Ian and the damage and loss of life. Its out to sea again and building... gonna hit Georgia.

I work with a fellow pilot whos home was damaged in Indian River Estates in Florida. He is building a retirement home in the mountains West of Asheville NC. In the end he might have TWO homes damaged by the same storm as Ian is heading straight for Asheville according to both American and European models.

Now *that* is some bad luck.
