Vroom scaled back on car purchasing during the lockdown period, so it was poorly prepared for the surge in demand that came later on as consumers bought cars to avoid public transportation and to address new needs during the crisis. That inventory imbalance weighed on results as overall revenue fell 3% in the second quarter and sales in its core e-commerce business rose 45%, down from triple-digit percentage growth in the first quarter, and those figures underwhelmed again in the third quarter. Its overall numbers include a dealership in Texas and a wholesale business, but investors should focus on the e-commerce segment.

Vroom's business should begin to normalize as it recovers from the inventory drought. Demand for used cars is expected to remain strong through 2021 as Americans continue to adjust to new lifestyles around remote work and other changes. Its e-commerce platform gives it an advantage during the pandemic, and its 2021 numbers should be strong as it laps the impact of the lockdowns in the crisis. Meanwhile, analysts expect revenue to surge 85% this year, and e-commerce is likely to grow faster than that.

Despite those prospects, the stock still looks cheap, trading at a modest price-to-sales ratio of 2.5, which is less than its bigger rival Carvana or e-commerce kingpin Amazon. Vroom isn't yet profitable as the company is investing in its e-commerce platform, but gross margins are moving in the right direction, which is a positive sign. With Vroom's potential for triple-digit revenue growth in the coming quarters, growth stock investors shouldn't ignore this e-commerce disruptor.

That's an interesting company.

I think even if we reach herd immunity and covid goes away, I'm pretty sure a lot of the stuff we've been doing for the last 50 years will change for good.

Do you know how many chinese buffets are closed? Dozens in every town. Thousands across the country. Ditto the other all you can eat places.

These type of machines that dispense food for you.... there's gonna be a HUGE demand. Americans aren't ready to give up their 'all-you-can-eat' fares. No way. We're the fattest country in the world. I think.

I was actually thinking about this as a theme for us. There's gotta be other players in this.
The way robotics are now.... I'm surprised we don't have employee-less McDonalds yet.

Door-Dash is overpriced. I guess they are using their stock... but I fail to see how a company can do that and not release details to the shareholders. That's bs imo.

Either way... its very interesting.

I remember the Automat in the Daily News building. All of these slots and you got your piece of cake. or Lunch. Heading back towards that but with robots involved.

The salad bar is done. Whole foods and those sneeze guards I don't think so..
