In my opinion, Friday was likely another opportunity to get into some Cdn energy plays that reported. Small dip after weeks of a nice rally. I own Athabaska Oil, Baytex Energy, Gear Energy, Crew Energy, Arc Resources. I had positions in Crescent Point, Pipestone, Tamarack Valley, Cenovus but traded out of them. Gear I'll sell if it stagnates again. I missed a good day on Pipestone it's a good play when Oil moves. Crescent Point is a difficult trader it tends to get dragged by US indexes on the NYSE. Tidewater ( TWM ) reporting soon got real cheap recently, but it trades thin so not easy to take a large position. I was lookin at $1.10ish Cdn and didn't get in; now it's $1.19. Last rally in this stock it got much higher.
Basically I try to ride some of the good reports and take advantage of daily moves up or down best I can. The Nat Gas plays I'm optimistic based on the oversized earnings from Thursday night but I've been burned at times by them stagnating or consolidating in a random fashion while the Oil players rally. In theory Arc Resources should be a home run with 25% dividend increase and earnings $1.32 >>> $0.81 but it tends to underplay at times it's a big stock attractive to more conservative investors. $5.20 a year annualized earnings on a $20 stock seems super cheap to me with a decent dividend. Athabaska has decades of reserves and a vastly improved balance sheet. Baytex is still doing amazing perhaps the largest upside potential if Oil has a good winter. Crew made 0.65 >>> 0.20 again massive for a company priced at $6.35. They were 0.14 stock in March 2020. So in 3 months they made almost 5 times profit of their entire market cap at the bottom.
It's a volatile sector but the valuations are compelling.
