Slow day- let me ask a general question of the board-about washing machines and dryers.
We have a very old unit here in the country- dryer is ontop of washing machine and dryer works off propane.
Dryer has started not working and making a very high pitched squeel and shutting itself off -- something is broken, bearings? Motor? This old machine is Whirlpool are they still in business!!
My wife is saying maybe we just get a new unit because it's ultimately easier..
I am always very loath to get rid of anything that works and fear new fangled junk with digital push buttons that break etc.
And using propane is that going to be an issue... they still do that I hope...
I can call a guy who will come over and maybe fix it.. or just charge me for saying it's unfixable or I can go straight to new unit?
What would you suggest-?

Now... all of those mortgages are at elevated interest rates, so if the Fed cuts rates, and the 30 year fixed rate mortgage drops in solidarity, you will see a wave of re-financing activity... and THAT pumps more cash into the economy because homeowners will naturally spend those extra dollars saved on their monthly payments. This will further boost inflationary pressures... soooo... Powell is not cutting rates in Q3 despite what the experts are saying.

I would guess idler pulley or the belt might be worn out & slipping on the motor pulley.
Youtube is great for appliance repair.
Try removing some covers to see if there's anything obvious.
If the unit stops turning the clothes can cover the vent holes inside & the unit will shut down from overheating. They have a thermal overload that trips. It will reset after it cools.
Try a search for your brand/model or "dryer squeaking noise".

If you're slightly handy some of these items are pretty simple to fix yourself.
