Gallup - Majority Say concealed weapons make US safer

4. States that allow registered citizens to carry concealed weapons have lower crime rates than those that don’t.

True. The 31 states that have “shall issue” laws allowing private citizens to carry concealed weapons have, on average, a 24 percent lower violent crime rate, a 19 percent lower murder rate and a 39 percent lower robbery rate than states that forbid concealed weapons. In fact, the nine states with the lowest violent crime rates are all right-to-carry states. Remarkably, guns are used for self-defense more than 2 million times a year, three to five times the estimated number of violent crimes committed with guns.

Too lazy to look up... can you explain the diff between "shall issue" and "right to carry"?

No real difference. Shall Issue means the state shall issue permits to citizens who pass background checks and qualify, and request.

And "right to carry" means you don't have to get a permit?

In Colorado it's about $150 for a 5-year license.

LOL! Yes, that's a great "study". Some choice quotes from the "study"...

Specifically, I argue that state- and county-level sales data for one of the
nation’s largest gun magazines, Guns & Ammo, provide a much more
accurate way to measure both the level and the change in gun ownership
within an area.

Magazine subscriptions measure the level and change in gun ownership. LOL! Subscriptions to Discover probably tell us how many astronomers there are in a given zip code, too. Or something.

While none of these tests individually proves that this magazine is a sufficiently accurate proxy variable, taken together they suggest that this panel data set represents the richest one ever assembled for measuring gun ownership.
Haha! No, it doesn't.

it suggests that an increase in the number of guns leads to a substantial increase in the number of homicides.
Since the majority of guns that commit homicides are illegally owned and obtained, no manner of statistical nonsense could track this. Or perhaps criminals that steal or buy illegal guns (which cannot be tracked) first subscribe to Guns & Ammo before committing murder? LOL! I stopped reading there.

What a joke.
