Gallup - Majority Say concealed weapons make US safer

Perhaps. A statement was made by Nine_Ender regarding the results as evidence of peoples stupidity. I offered evidence that DESPITE a tripling in the number of people with carry permits the gun homicide rate has been steadily declining. The facts do not jibe with Nine_Ender's fears.
Fair enough. Still, we have two correlations, and a desire to believe two different causations.

Imo the better counter argument to the thread's premise is simply, "argumentum ad populum".

True, but guns are way more effective than blades. That's why our troops recently switched over from swords.
; )

The choice of weapon isn't the question, it's the choice of defending yourself. And yes I 'd rather have access to my firearm than be limited to just a blade. I'll follow the "Troops" example.

:)

Right. So the proposed counter-arguments, "ban knives", "ban cars", etc., don't stand up.

This just proves that America is gradually getting stupid about these things. Shocking really how gullible the public is in terms of listening to media and special interest groups. The Iraq War was a recent example of this. Pretty much the whole world knew it was a bad idea predicated on false ideas, but just before the war Americans were really strongly for the war. How did that work out for you ? You are still paying for that decision.

I'm not sure why some of you want to live in a society where you can be blown away by any random stranger at any moment, but that seems to be your wish here.

Yes, it's America that stupid, not you. It's too bad you can't lead us.

We already live in a society where we can be blown away by any random stranger. That's the reason we want to protect ourselves.

And the reason we can be blown away by a random stranger is because there are too many guns around.

Handguns and "assault firearms" should be banned. Except for secured range use.

Except that you have no idea how to fix this. You can't get rid of the guns that are responsible for almost all the deaths and crime. You haven't figured out the solution and you never will.

Here is a simple solution that would cut our firearm murder rate by over HALF. Prohibit young black males from the ages of 14 to 35 from owning any type of firearm.

Are you uncomfortable yet? Why is it that such a small national demographic is responsible for the majority of the gun murders? This is my problem with gun control idiots. They claim that guns cause gun murders when CLEARLY it is the human being. If "too many guns" cause gun homicides why isn't there an equal demographic of offenders?

Another issue is the fear of so called "Assault weapons". These guns are used in a statistically insignificant number of gun homicides. Sure, they look "scary" but they function the same as any other semi automatic weapon. Banning guns with bayonet lugs?

You're not going to find that logic is a strong point with gun control moonbats. It's all emotion driving their rage.
