PRINCETON, N.J. -- A majority of Americans, 56%, believe that if more Americans carried concealed weapons after passing a criminal background check and training course, the country would be safer.

This just proves that America is gradually getting stupid about these things. Shocking really how gullible the public is in terms of listening to media and special interest groups. The Iraq War was a recent example of this. Pretty much the whole world knew it was a bad idea predicated on false ideas, but just before the war Americans were really strongly for the war. How did that work out for you ? You are still paying for that decision.

I'm not sure why some of you want to live in a society where you can be blown away by any random stranger at any moment, but that seems to be your wish here.

In Israel they are killing innocent people with knives in multiple victim attacks... It's not the gun it's the individual that wants to do evil.

If you want to cower in fear and live in a world where Big Brother takes care of you, that's your decision not mine. When the time comes and it's your life on the line and your Big Brother Protector is just a phone call and 10 minutes away - you'll wish you had a weapon or someone there did.

Explain how the firearm murder rate is declining while at the same time concealed carry is increasing in our country. Is America getting stupid or is it just isolated to people like you?

It should be pointed out that the majority of mass killings have happened where legally carrying a firearm is prohibited. Why do mass killers prefer gun free zones? Despite what the "media" tells us did you realize you have less than a .0027% chance of being murdered by a criminal with a firearm? A .0005% chance of dying from a gun accident? I believe a Statistician would call these odds insignificant.

Turn off the TV and you will feel better. Just because the news is on 24/7 and every shooting is reported doesn't mean shootings are increasing. These "news" programs are designed to get you worried and to sell more potato chips/toilet tissue.

We are not discussing household gun ownership rates. We are discussing the statement above. If the 56% of people responding were wrong wouldn't we be seeing an increase in gun homicides?

Another thing to consider is the validity of claims regarding household gun ownership. I suspect the survey's are flawed. I suspect survey takers may not be getting honest answers when they ask if people have a gun in the home.

Perhaps. A statement was made by Nine_Ender regarding the results as evidence of peoples stupidity. I offered evidence that DESPITE a tripling in the number of people with carry permits the gun homicide rate has been steadily declining. The facts do not jibe with Nine_Ender's fears.
