Fulltime trader loner?

Quote from oldtime:

you really have to wonder if some thinking wife said, "You know old man, you aint getting any younger, and it is just a matter of time before you blow up (get killed), perhaps maybe we should invest a little for our old age?

I hope you realize it was yourself you just quoted.

Yo OT, I figured it would just be a matter of time before you joined this discussion.

Leave the wives and ladies out of it. Complicates things too much.
yeah, I like talking, trading can be very lonely, ladies? no problem. Wives? Big problem

when the forex thing started working out, I had a choice, did I want to get big?

I just decided to sweep 50%

Quote from oldtime:

was watching that movie "The Last Samurai" last night

these people created a very peaceful life

they never got involved

their only purpose in life was to fight

they really didn't give a shit if they won or lost

one of my favorite movies... but the essence of samurai was to disregard the fear of death, embrace it, and focus while enjoying life... sure, their focus was fighting... but they were diversified.. they didnt just focused on using a sword, but also a lance, bow, hand to hand, etc...

it was a good choice, since 2013 has been just a bunch of shit

It's gotten so bad I had to reintroduce stops

just like a common gambler

now, I need a strong hard trend to make money

and most of the time the market chops

so I am definitely on the wrong side of history

Are fulltime traders mostly loner in character? I have traded fulltime for 1.5 years, actually I have enjoyed doing all these trading alone, no more office meetings, no interaction with colleagues except my kids and spouse

Just that in longer terms , few more years down the road, I'm just wondering what kind of person I will become? Anti social? Even more of a loner? Any other Side effects since most of time trading is a lonely job without any interaction with colleagues, minimal human interactions

Any fulltime over 5 years traders care to comment ? Thanks in advance

I became more sociable each year I worked, despite working completely alone. I don't think how you work affects your personality much, unless you do something like fight a bloody war or work as a prostitute for years.

You don't go to work to party or make friends, you go there to make a living and possibly to do worthwhile activity that gives satisfaction. Your social life is dependent on how you socialise, not how you work. The only advice I'd give is that social life is like work in that if you put in no effort you'll probably get poor results. Most worthwhile things in life required deliberate targeted effort to get good results, serendipity only goes so far.

just the opposite for me

I was brought up Jewish

and you had to go to a lot of Bar Mitzvahs and weddings

and what most goyam don't realize, you have to buy tickets for the high holidays, and the more you pay, the closer you get to sit, and that establishes your standing in the community

fuck it man

I'll just be a loner

I don't need all that shit

I worked solo for years and became less anti-social. You can get your human interaction through social life - put in some effort there and there is no reason you should turn into a hermit. However, I think there are other major disadvantages to working alone, the main one being lack of an external checks on your mistakes, oversights, and deterioration in discipline - 2 minds are better than 1. Also, someone else who is enthusiastic about work, makes you more enthusiastic about work. Anyone working solo is going to be at a huge competitive disadvantage to someone working with a smart, motivated colleague.

So, if you are a very disciplined loner, and happy to chug along earning your keep without ever getting close to realising your full potential, then trading solo may be for you.

yes, that is exactly right, I don't want to realize my full potential, I like to keep a little something in reserve

never know when you may need it
