The legal definition is not the common one, and is not "offbeat."
The one held by stu is the commoner definition...bland, bald, and self serving in its nature.
Having a personal world view is one thing.
Devoting time with other like minded followers of a particular world/non world view in a collective manner to defend that world view, meeting on message boards collectively to promote that world view, defending other members of their faith when one of the members is questioned, speaking of Gilbert or flying spaghetti monsters as their chosen one, having political agendas to advance that world view and uproot other religious practices, ridicule of other religions...all common features of religions and their fanatical followers these days.
Same religious fervor is present in the religion of atheism...same fundamentalism, same dogmatism, same intolerance of minority opinions, same projection of the "right way" to view the world...
Thanks for confirming things, now the other members of the church of atheism will pitch in for further confirmation...

LOL.
Yeah, yeah, I know Z. You eschew "commoner" definitions in favor of off beat, illicit ones.
But still, you might have wanted to read the entire article before posting.
And before some moron... erm, wise ass, eh hmm, I mean smarty pants thinks they might have a point concerning the phrase belief system... Just bear in mind that a philosophy, world view, and ideology are also examples of a belief system. Don't think because you see the word "belief" it always refers to religion.
