I was being conservative in my opening post by using 0.6%.

the problem with Covid is not only the higher mortality rate relative to the flue, it is the speed of diffusion the so colled R0 which in normal condition is way higher than that of the flue.

so, of course people die with the flue but they do so a little at a time without ever overwhelming the health system, with covid being asymptomatic in 50% of the cases, you have, at any time, a high number of people that are infectious and do not even know it. with the flue this does not happen as it is always symptomatic and usually put you to bed for a few days.

Some people listen to the clown in chief and Fox news and think they understand what is happening, the rest of the people lough so they do not cry

U re much better at being an asshole than at reading it appears. I posted several links where overwhelmed medical systems are not an issue. Actually those systems are underwhelmed.

yes some are, some are not also thanks to lock down slowing the spread of the disease.

ask NY health care personnel, ask the same in Bergamo, Brescia, Madrid. of course in some area the virus has been stopped before it reached that level of infections.

I mean so far it killed more American than the Vietnam war, 50K people in a month... if it is not something to worry about I don't know what is?

I have learnt more about the differences between Flu and Covid since i started this thread.

Flu kills 1 in 2000 people who get infected in a bad year.

Covid kills at least 1 out every 200 people it infects (average over all age ranges)

And will be as high as 1 in every 100 people for countries and towns that have an older demographic.

On the Diamond princess cruise ship it killed 1 out 50 people who got infected.

In a single care home it can easily kill 1 out 5 people.

Assuming your numbers are correct, this means that Covid has a mortality rate that is at least 10 times higher than Influenza, if you add that the R0 for Covid19 is between 1.6 and 5.7 while that for the seasonal flu is between 0.9 and 2.1, you have a virus that is not only more deadly but also more infective, a very nasty combination.

Your stats are pretty worrying. One thing that puzzles me is this - why has the impact of COVID been so bad in places like the UK, Italy and the USA and yet inn India it hasn't taken hold? Yet you have these huge densely populated cities like Mumbai?

Lack of testing so it s hard to know what s going on plus more favourable weather possibly
As of the stats not everyone would see them deserving such drastic responses, plus countries with younger population will be less impacted

The seemingly low impact of Covid19 in India may be due to different factors:

• India seems to be coming relatively late in the pandemic, first cases detected in March while Italy was already at its worst in mid march.
• low number of tests performed, about 1 test per 1000 people, US is at 25, Italy at 38, so many cases may have gone undetected.
• Also, chances are that the poorest people, those that have the least chance to self isolate are also the ones that are less likely to be tested or even cured (this is true everywhere, even in Italy and the US, but the % of these people over the total population is likely to be higher in India)

I hope that India (and other countries that so far seems to have been affected less by Covid19) is somehow less impacted by the virus as with its huge population it would be a disaster.
