Quote from cgroupman:
I've been staying out of this, not a real fan of the baiting via name calling on thread names, whichever side. However, I have to agree that I doubt very seriously our brave troops were happy about killing innocent people. I can understand that it is difficult to identify the enemy at times, especially for these very young soldiers who are likely scared most of the time, and rightfully so.
I also feel that you're right about placing whatever blame there is on the group that pushed so hard to get into this nightmare. Even if you agree with the initial premise, WMD's and all that, getting rid of Saddam, mission accomplished, how can you come to terms with what followed. The lack of study of the region and their sects involved caused us to send our kids right into the middle of an ever-increasing civil war.
I don't post nearly as much as most of you guys, so I like to repeat how I feel about all the polarization that has developed since 9/11. One sure way for the real bad guys to feel that they have beaten the U.S. is to simply watch our extreme right and left factions tear the Country apart. We really don't have to call each other names, and we really don't have to live or die by either sides talking points/drumbeat. We could get back to the America that I grew up with, lose th hatred from within, and try to actually evolve our way out of all this infighting.
