Flat Panel Monitors

thx for the other links.. http://www.panoramtech.com/ looks cool too (thinking Quake deatchmatch here lol)

a note, I've heard the flat panels have a shorter life /buggy compared to the crts.. anyone know about this?

probably a good idea to make sure that $800-$3K+ monitor has at least a 3yr warranty etc..

I'll probably end up with a couple of the sony/viewsonic 18" viewable ones..

Wow!, I love the quad 18" setup on www.massedi.com Actually, 5 grand is not a bad price if they're good screens. I love how they mention that they're also for gaming. 5-10 grand screens for gaming! Those are some hardcore gamers:cool:

1920 x 1200 res.. the pic on the site doesn't do it justice.. great monitor..

Anyone know of something similar for pcs? I saw one of these in action at the doctor's office, it's great, like 1 1/2 monitors wide, super high res.. and hey only $3500 :o

Yeah, for PC it is the Silicon Graphics 1600sw. No longer being made, but ebay has them all the time (get one which is a factory refurb with warranty). Go to Ebay and enter '1600sw' in the search. The run around $1200 w/ (required) multilink adapter.

For specs, see:
http://www.sgi.com/products/legacy/displays.html

So far, it is finest flat panel.

Thanks Eddie!

As the 19" CRT monitor has about the same viewable size of the screen as a 17" TFT monitor, I assume they will look good next to each other, using the same chart program on both! If different sizes, I would think it would look strange.

Question:

Does anyone have a link for how to set up two monitors in the best, and, easiest way? Would appreciate it.

Thanks - looks nice - that's what I'm after... it would be much better to have 3 of these, than 6 regular monitors.. more streamlined..

do you (or anyone) have experience as an owner of one of these -- eg is the reliability, lifetime of the monitor, good ?

appreciate the reference, I had not been aware of these :) likely a better alternative than the sony 18" type flat panel

Hi,

I have a question that I hope can be answered in as few words as possible.

I'm looking to get out of the CRT market and into an LCD setup.

What is the best 17" to 19" monitor currently being used by our professional traders?

I'm keeping one of my CRT's for viewing video as I have yet to find an LCD to that can keep up with quality of the CRT's video imaging. If anyone knows of any LCD that equals or betters CRT's in the video dept (as I know text and data and relatively the same for both) I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks to all,
Jj.

Hi Bootsie-

my 2 cents. . .

Definitely the best Flat Panels on the market currently for a Daytrader would be either;

Samsung 191T or the EIZO L685

Either of these have the industries highest standard Contrast Ratios(500:1). However, perhaps even more beneficial and functional for a trader is the fact that these Panels are designed with a very thin bezel. When stacking them in a side-to-side or over-and-under configuration it gives the appearance of working on one contiguous trading screen. This cannot be beat in my opinion.

If you get really serious about having the best possible viewable trading panel array and money is of NO concern then check out
MASS Multiple Screen arrays.

Even when your're losing money your're having fun watching it!!!

happy trading,

After something like 7 months I have nothing but praise. I have it mated to a Matrox G550 digital.

My eyes have never seen a finer display.
